Hey all! Long time lurker and learner, and now proud owner of a Gladiator Rubicon.

Contacted a bunch of dealers in the Kansas City area for pricing, starting out by telling them I could get 5% under invoice just up the road in Iowa (or Arkansas). Gave them my list of what I wanted - stated that I'd prefer to build if it wasn't in stock.

One local dealership wrote back stating they would do 5% under, on an order or a lot vehicle. Stopped by to see what they had, and to look at colors so that my son could pick. I had wanted a red one, pretty loaded (specs are below), or StinGray.

So, on the lot we saw all the colors - my son didn't like the red. He did like the silver, which I liked to. They had a silver on the lot, fully loaded with everything I wanted except the steel bumper and proximity entry, and some extras. Still 5% below invoice and a very reasonable $202 doc fee. Additionally, they offered financing that was very good, though not as good as my USAA, and a very reasonable offer for my 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Altitude.

It had a small discoloration on the front bumper where it looks like a car came around the lot and brushed against it. Since they have to order a new bumper for me, when that new one comes in, and the go to replace, it, they are just going to put the brand new stock bumper, in its box, in my bed and install the steel bumper [that I bought from the parts department with the salesman discount for $560 plus tax) on it for free. So I'll have a brand new bumper to keep or sell, along with the tonneau cover and Rubi rock rails, if I decide to change those things.

I probably could have gotten the price a little lower, but it was a hassle free experience and I got nearly everything I wanted, and a little more that i can use (tonneau) or don't mind having (painted fender flares). I can do without the proximity entry.

Looking forward to modding it a bit as soon as I figure out what I want...

Cheers!

Chris

i really dig the color scheme of your house. Once the diesel comes out I may contact you as KC is only a 45 min flight from Denver

Thanks - we lucked out last year when we moved from DC (well, that was luck all on its own!) and found a place with only the foundation poured. So we got to pick everything.

If you are interested in the Rubi rails, or tonneau cover, let me know - I'm not in a hurry to unload them, so could wait.

Great looking truck, congrats!

When you said you could probably get the price a little lower, was that because of the bumper or do you think you could've done better than the 5% below invoice?

Thanks! I'm very happy with it.

As for the price, I think that there are some places (though not in the Midwest) doing more than 5% below invoice. So I might have been able to try and push the price lower, or to ask more for my trade-in. No guarantee that they'd go any lower either. But I had a trade in range number in mind and they offered smack in the middle of it (and the tax benefit of the trade offsets any private sale gain, not to mention the hassle).

I could have built exactly what I wanted for a little less or maybe a wash (no painted fender flares or tonneau cover, adding in bumper and proximity entry), and waited 10 weeks for it, and then hope that I'd get the same amount for my old one too.

The steel bumper deal is a bonus in that I'm going to get the bumper I wanted for less than it would cost on a new build, and I can sell the original bumper as well.

I want this dealer to make a profit as well, and have a good relationship with them. Not worth trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of them.

I appreciate the response, thank you.

I looked at their website and saw they have a couple Gators in, however not max tow.. I think I'll pay them a visit and see about ordering. Do you know what is due upfront when ordering with them? Also, if the diesel comes out before the 10 weeks or so it takes to get delivered, do you know the canceling policy?

Sorry, no experience buying new.

I don't know what they ask for a deposit (I was prepared to put down some money if I did order), or cancellation policies. Sorry.

Congratulations. Silver is a great color. I had every intention of buying a firecracker red JT but silver grabbed my attention and that’s what I went with.
Can you elaborate how you got the steel bumper for $560?

Sure. So, the car on the lot did not have the steel bumper. But we wanted one. So we pondered ordering one and having it installed. But even with a parts discount, there would still be an install fee.

However, the car has a significant scuff on the stock plastic bumper - likely another vehicle rubbed against it on the lot. So the dealer has to replace that stock plastic bumper with a new one.

So they've ordered a new plastic bumper. And they've ordered a metal bumper that we paid for - the cost was $560 using the salesman's discount code since we just bought a vehicle. And when they are both in, I'll return to the dealership. They will remove the scuffed plastic bumper (their labor) and, rather than install the new plastic bumper (their labor), they will put on the metal one (free labor) and give me the original plastic one in the box.

So I get the metal bumper for $560+tax (installed) and a stock plastic bumper to sell.

Makes sense. $560 is a great price for the steel bumper. Wish my salesman had a discount code like your salesman.

Yeah - I didn't know they could (or would) do that. But knowing that a dealer (at least this dealer) "can" is a good bargaining chip in the future when I make a car purchase.

Not sure if I can unload my OEM plastic one, but whatever I can get for it offsets the already good purchase price.

Of course, till I have it in hand, and the steel one put on, nothing is certain!
