Not sure where the confusion started, all I was doing was comparing the cost of a color matched hard top PLUS a sun rider, is only about a grand less than the auto top.

I think it’s pretty obvious you wouldn’t want to add a sunrider half folding top to one that goes completely back .
I know my confusion over your math was because of how you phrased your initial post. You never mentioned sun rider and instead said aftermarket freedom top. Since aftermarket freedom top isn't a thing I assumed you meant freedom top which is what Jeep calls the hard top. So I was pointing out that 1800 or 2800 depending on which top you prefer is more then 1000. But yes in the comparison you were trying to make the difference is only 1000.

The fact that this option is $1000 more then the next most expensive roof plus an $800 accessory is probably why not many people buy it. The fact that not many people buy it on the 4 door Wrangler is probably why it isn't an option on the lower volume 2 Door Wrangler or Gladiator.

Just saw one on this Rubicon at Target. Owner said $68,000 out the door. Never ever would I pay that much but to each their own.

The granite one also has the new half doors, which is why the windows look like they come out different.

Thanks pretty sweet, but also freaking expensive as crap for a wrangler.

My thoughts as well and from what he was saying you can't remove it completely without doing a ton of stuff to take it off that he said was not worth even trying. So your stuck with a glorified sunroof pretty much.

It is called Sky One Touch and the rear windows have a lever you turn and the windows pop out very easily. Open the top, remove the windows, and remove the doors or put on half doors and you will be almost completely convertible. You can remove the top completely but it voids your warranty if the dealer figures out you did it. I would think the only reason to remove it would be if you kept the Jeep for many years and the top broke and wasn't worth the money to fix it or when we keep our Jeeps so long we finally Rhino line them and put a bikini top on and give up on it getting some rain in it.

My dealer, who is also a friend, says that the Sky One Touch sells like crazy when he orders them and normally to the higher priced vehicles which makes perfect sense. Once the customer has the Sky One Touch he says that they never go back to a regular hard top.

Below is the order form for the first allocation of 392's, as you can see when the Sky One Touch option is chosen then you don't need

dual top group
Mopar hardtop headliner
Mopar Solid Bonnet Top
Mesh Top
Windshield tie down
Sunrider Soft Top

Not that we would have ordered dual top and Bonnets etc but we know if you buy the dual tops and half doors when new it is a lot less expensive than buying them after the fact.

Even if it was a affordable option, I wouldn't consider that a real jeep with a electric top, just my to cents. I don't want anything like that. If no AC was a option on my Gladiator I would of opted for that. I had no AC in my JKU for about 60,000 of 132,000 miles because when it went out I didn't feel like I needed it or wanted it. That's the main reason I wanted no power windows or power door locks on mine, I hate all the creature comforts. A electric top just seems stupid to me and I really don't see it being a huge seller. That Rubicon I saw was the first one I had ever seen and the owner said if not for his wife wanting it that he would of opted for just a soft top.

its 4k, it depends where you live and how you use the Jeep. My old JK was finally retired after 10 years and now is no doors, no top, and only comes out on days I know it isn't going to rain or be crazy hot.

In the past I spent more time putting bikini tops on and off and t-tops on and off and soft tops up and down and hard tops on and off and I am over it.

In addition if you ever go off-road you don't want the dust and mud and crap all coming in the Jeep so depending on the situation that kind of top is more convenient.

If I lived in AZ where it doesn't rain for months I would never get a Sky One Touch.

I ordered my 392 with it and half doors and when the extended warranty is up I am sure I will take that top off and it will be the next retired Jeep for sunny days only.

I hate sun so I don't take a top off completely ever but I do like getting the air when the sun goes down and the Sky One Touch is perfect for that. It appears you live in NC, if I lived there I would not have bought it there either as you have Hard top half the year and soft top the other half.

I’m kinda like you also, I don’t like an open top with the sun glaring down on me. However, one exception is that I love having the top completely off when the sun is almost down or at night time. Something about being on the backroads, at night, in the middle of the summer... that open air experience is awesome.

Thats the time of day the top comes off for me also. Every vehicle I own is a convertible or the top comes off and the 392 is going to be my daily driver. I am sure I will rip that top off after a few years and sell it one day as a soft top Jeep.

I am older now and body all beat up so I cant take the tops off and stand on the side steps anymore like I used to, this is the one time I wish I had a son to tell him to go put the top up or down and dads Jeep but that's not the path in life I took.

I am looking for a summer place in NC so you will probably see me in 2 door JK with bikini top or Gladiator lol. 392 will be the stay at home in FL Jeep daily driver if I can handle stopping at the gas station every other day.

Jeep originally offered the sky one touch power top on the Liberty.

Ol Jeff Scherb built a whole modular top system with a JK hard top, Ive always felt jeep saw that and the one touch was born on the wrangler.

The windows do come out and there was a heap of confusion back in the day when the JL dropped about if the removable windows was all tops or not. Also the reason you are admonished to not remove it is getting it aligned right is a chore of the highest order.

For the right jeep owner it provides the comfort of the hardtop, an expansive roof opening for back seaters and none of that fussy top removal. Let's be honest, with paint matched fenders and top, how hardcore you plan to get?
