Nitto Recon Grappler 37X11.50R17

After my post yesterday I am considering these instead of the BFG 37's. I searched and only found a few posts about these. Does anyone have these? Can you post pics and what lift/mods you are running with them? What is your review of them? My biggest concern is some of the reviews say they are not good in snow, and with me living in West Virginia we do get our fair share of snow. One of the main things that is peaking my interest is being able to run the stock wheels without doing a wheel spacer as I would rather not go that route if possible. I do like my stock wheels and would like to keep them.

I run Nitto Terra Grapplers on 2 vehicles and love them, but have no clue about how they do in snow. I believe Recon replaced the Terra. They are heavier than BFG’s if that matters.

I have recon grapplers. 37x11.5r17s. The main reason I went with these is because I wanted a narrow 37. Not a fan of the super wide tires.

In the attached pictures, I am running a 2.5 inch AEV lift. Stock Mojave suspension with Apex Autolynx. No rubbing issues at all and I’ve had it flexed out fully.

I haven’t had a chance to use them too much, but I’ve been happy with them. The few times I’ve taken them out. Quiet. Balanced well. Not overly aggressive and a good all-around tire in my opinion.

And not terribly heavy either.

I previously had Kenda Klever 35s. They were pretty good. Especially for the price when they were super cheap. Took them out to Moab a couple times and while they worked, they didn’t seem to really grab the rock all that well. A lot of tire slippage.

I believe the Nittos grab rocks really well. We did some medium crawling this weekend with friends and as an experiment I stayed in 2wd and went everywhere they did in 4wd. Finessing the throttle I had very little tire slippage.

I don't have the 11.5"s, but have been running the 12.5" for 26k miles now and love them. I haven't done any true snow wheeling (anything over 12"), but I have commuted/road-tripped in them several times in snow without a problem. Now my Jeep is heavy, so the contact patch might be higher than others. I will be buying them again when the currents wear out. Possibly the 11.5" version.

I have these in 38". I really like the tire, super quiet on the highway and balance really well with beads in them. I've been in a lot of mud but no snow.

I eventually did added spacers just to give it a wider stance. But during the time without spacers, there’s no rubbing at all with typical desert wheeling and mild flexing.

I also thinking about these on stock wheels but if they come in at 71lbs. About 7lbs more then the stock tires. If I go K02 with the 37" x 12.5" C load, they are 65lbs which is the best out there. We all know it's for a 8.5"+ wheel but I see people posting no issues. I also would need to find someone that will install it and not get scared.

The Discount Tire website shows the mountain/snowflake symbol for any tire that has it. Makes it quick to include/exclude a tire from consideration. They also show actual diameter and weight. Very handy for picking tires.

I had the BFG KO2 and now the Recon's on both my JT and my RAM. On road, the Recons are great, but do not handle as well as the KO2s on the street. They also do not have the wet traction the KO2 did. It isn't bad, but definitely not as good.

Offroad, the Recons seem to have the edge on the KO2's. They just stick better in every condition I have had them in. They aren't night and day better, but noticeable. Also, they were something like $80 a tire cheaper.

If they were the same price, I would go with the BFG, but the cost difference isn't worth it in my opinion. I am pretty happy with the Recon's.
