I have had my Nitto Trail Grappler 37s for about 2 years and they have a whopping 6000 miles on them. I have gone off-roading and handful of times and nothing crazy extreme. They see more highway miles than anything. So I was surprised at the missing rubber. I would assume this is a defect.

I took this to @Discount Tire (where I bought it from) and the manager said "Nitto said it wasn't covered". Looking at the warranty, it mentions nothing about chunking not being covered.

Has anyone else had this problem?

The Shitto’s on my JK, 37/12.50/17s had cracks across the treads the first year on. Tire shop wasn’t all that concerned and the rep said they’d replace them minus mileage. Probably should have been replaced. Still running them but I’ll not buy their product again. My brothers also cracked on his one ton. I’ve read it’s a thing.
not impressed. Toyo’s on the Gladiator, Maxxis Bighorns on the LJ.

LOL... "Shittos"... ok... I'm remembering that one!

Yeah if you look at the pic, they are cracking on the lugs. These are truly a POS. So my next ones need to be something that is gonna last.

@M0untainM4n , I'm sorry to here you are having some issues with your Trail Grapplers! I wouldn't say this is common with this particular model, as we do see this across all M/T models now and then. I've personally beat on this tire in Moab a time or two, resulting in minimal chunking.

Not saying this is the case here, but generally speaking with the chunking being on the outer shoulders, it could be from cornering too hard/fast on rocky surfaces.

May not hurt to reach out to Nitto customer service to see if there's any support they may be able to provide. If we can assist from our end here on the forum, please don't hesitate to shoot us a DM!

Thanks @Discount Tire. Yeah I went into my local Discount Tire and they agreed with me, that these should not be chunking this early on with low mileage and time. The big concern is the cracking between the lugs which means there is a bit of road rot going on with the rubber. My Discount Tire guy reached out to Nitto and they said its not covered. I read the Nitto warranty and that was not correct. It actually should fall under the limited tread warranty and overall 25% lifetime warranty. I think this is just Nitto not wanting to deal with it. I have a buddy with Mickey Thompsons with the same set up as mine and he has no chunking or cracking whatsoever. This seems to be a Nitto problem as the sister JL forums has some threads on this as well. Nitto does seem to help some folks out. but they told me to pound sand.
