First off...I am new to the Jeep Community. I came over from a lifted 5th gen 4Runner that I had for 10 years (I know....about to get flamed for that). I wave every time because I respect the tradition and I don't want to be the newb that craps on something that has been going on since the beginning. I would say that so far 97% of my experiences in the Jeep Community have been more than awesome and the other 3% I chalk to people being self important A-hats. I've gotten invited on some trail rides while just getting gas out in WV, I got "ducked" the other day in a parking lot at the grocery store and most Wrangler folks ask me how I like the JT. And then there was the dude driving a wrangler in a parking lot that I waved to who stared me down with a crappy look and shook his head and mouthed "no" really slowly (while my little boys where in the car waving).

I see some posts on this thread about how people are "just buying Jeeps to be cool" or "I was a Jeeper before it was cool in my 1980-IDGAF". What is up? I don't get it. Unless you drove a Jeep out of your mother during birth we all bought them because we thought they were cool. That is how it starts.

That's my rant. Gonna go hop in my JTR and go run to the store...likely get some crappy looks from lifted Toyotas and Jeepers that cant see past the tip of their nose but the other 97% of the time I'll get some waves and awesome conversations from total strangers....and that is what makes me so happy to have bought a Jeep.

I wave, don't care if anyone waves back. That's on them. Only thing I care about is that we all share and respect the trails and that we all pay attention to driving. If that means no wave in either direction, at least there'll be a next time to give it a shot.

I've waved at a ton of people and they just /ignore.
Even the lifted guys.

I’m not trying to say one way or another if one should wave. Best I can tell, some don’t know where the wave came from. The Original, two finger up like a peace sign was borne on the fields of battle so to speak. In the Military during WW2, primarily Army and Marines, Enlisted were not to salute officers as is part of our customs and courtesy’s while deployed over seas. As a sign of respect while driving the first Willys MA’s and subsequently Ford GP’s, enlisted acknowledged the great senior leaders while driving with the first wave. Jeep was borne of battle, to tackle any terrain or obstacle that lay before it. To me, even the Fiat inspired Renegades are a decendant of that original framework Willy or GP. At one point in our lives all Jeep owners thought something along the lines of “ I want to be able to tackle that trail, crawl those rocks, or run that dune down”. It all boils down to common courtesy in my books. Wave or don’t, either way I’m waving because I recognize that you as a Jeep Owner have either respect for the Jeep Bloodline and origin, a similar mindset in appreciation of the abilities of Jeep as a Brand, or are a good judge of a bad ass vehicle.

I wave at all wranglers (CJ/TJ/YJ/ect...), gladiators, and cherokees 2001 and older. I hate the new cherokees, I feel like they didn’t do them justice. I hardly get waves back, but that’s ok, I figure it’s because I’m such a bright individual that people can’t look directly at me and see me wave!??

I drive a gladiator, but every time I pass someone driving a $60,000 gladiator. I wave, and call them a douche because they truly are not a jeep person if they pay someone to install their lift, complain about their steering box, and wear white sunglasses. They probably considered a tundra before buying a Jeep. And made the wrong choice. ?

Got my first wave the other day! I have not had my JT out much so maybe ill get some more in the summer. Wranglers by me are like minivans they are all over, typically silver with black wheels lol, not hating just what I see.

I think it is different now than the old days 70s not many drove jeeps. When I first got mine 77 cj7 golden eagle I was going up to big bear to ski There was just a long line of traffic just stopped snowbank 73 feet high on my side of the road couldn’t see anything except the car in front of you along comes a CJ 53 or four guys in it. They see me In my Goldeneagle . They pull over talk to me for a couple minutes asked me what I’m doing I Say waiting for the traffic accident up there to clear . They say no traffic accident just a bunch a tourist putting on chains you can just go right on up . So I did I drove on up on the wrong side of the road for like 8 miles pulled into the very first spot right in front of the lift line was on the slopes for hours before hardly anybody got there. That was then now I live up in the mountains by so many and everybody in a jeep waves. I only been up here for about a year but when I was Down in Encinitas only a few lifted or jeeps with winches on the front waved
I kind of think that it depends a bit on where you live up here and there ain’t that many people so the guy you didn’t wave to might be the guy that shows up to help pull you out when you’re stuck or worse I think it’s like thatMaybe in smaller or more rural towns just my humble opinion
