Back in mid-late 90’s on my TJ, my window is mostly rolled down, or I can easily roll it down with my left hand and I’d throw a shaka/hangten ? to any jeep’s. Almost all do wave back or they’ll throw??✌? etc. Now on my JT, I just do 2 fingers on wheel thing because of #1 covid, hence keeping my windows closed and #2 it‘s takes right hand to open the windows then switch hands on the wheel, and then finally wave with my left. So the convenience of waving is kinda gone. So I think most ppl don’t see our✌wheel wave. Once covid is behind us, i’ll go back to my usual ?.

When I ride with the doors on and the top up most people don't wave. However, if I even put just the convertible top down I noticed a big increase in the number of waves. Take the doors off also And I get waves from Land Rovers as well

Funny, I was just coming home from my sons basketball game this morning and I waved to about 10 Jeeps. I don't always see the return wave, but I noticed at least 5 return waves.

The wave is alive.

Just got back from running errands. Waved to two Wranglers within a couple minutes of each other and got waves returned.

I get waves 90% of the time. I live in a small enough town that I recognize a lot of jeeps and can call it ahead of time whether or not I'll get a wave. But I wave anyway. Have a buddy who had his first jeep and for two months couldn't figure out why people were waving at him. So I just tell myself non-wavers either don't know or are too busy texting.

I was aware of the Jeep wave prior to buying the Gladiator (my first Jeep), but didn't fully appreciate the dedication to the act, at least in my neck of the woods. And I've discovered that there's definitely a pecking order around here. Wranglers of all varieties and Gladiators: wave a solid 95% of the time. Except for women, who wave just shy of never. Old-school Cherokees: wave ~75%. Liberties, Compass, Renegade, newer Cherokees, etc - I'm guessing that they're considered re-badged Chryslers around here, because no waves ever.
And apparently we follow school bus rules: if there's a common turn-lane in the middle, you wave. But if it's divided by a physical median, no matter how small, no wave.
My previous DD was a WRX, so the "club" is not a new phenomenon to me. I do get a kick out of the similarities/differences between the two cultures, though. I used to be broke because "go fast"; now I'm about to be broke because "clearance".
Regardless, I always wave. Public roads really bring out the worst in people, myself not excepted; it's a like a simple little reminder to chill out and be glad that you get to drive around in something fun, instead of being so pissed off that [insert any stupid driving behavior here].

A lot of people I see appear to be aware but don't want to go first. As soon as I lift two fingers off the top of the steering wheel, I get a return wave (or nod) more often than not.

I get a lot of waves in Michigan. If it's a completely stock Wrangler/Gladiator, I don't wave unless they do first. Most likely they don't know/care Jeep culture.

So are you saying that if my JT is stock, I don't know Jeep culture? Interesting...

I read where the wave started between WW2 between veterans and it was two fingers in a V. Victory. I think it is a very cool tradition and I wave at all Jeeps I see. 95% of the jeeps around here wave back but if they don't, I couldn't care less. I am saying we are the most badass country in the world and I don't need conformation. Side not, there is no way to tell if we are a Gladiator or a Wrangler until we are close. If there is no wave, they don't know, don't care, or didn't see you. I don't think it is a Gladiator thing.

Didn't mean to offend the stock owners lol
Just making some general statement based on my observation... I waved at every Jeep and 90% of stock owners didn't wave back to me.
