No. I want to break even. Not paying, but getting a few bucks back. I had to pay $28,000 for 2016 tax year. And $18,000 for 2017. This is the first year since then that I had to pay.

I wholeheartedly agree with your process. I'm not anti-gubment but I also don't appreciate someone using my money for a year and me getting no return on it. I'm in AZ and because of the way our state taxes work out, I wind up where my state tax return pays for my Fed tax debt. If my state uses my "excess" money for the year I guess I'm okay with that because the roads, police, fire departments, etc. are more directly funded...and I can live with that.

Now where did I put my "manifesto"?

I use my returns to pay my property taxes. Kind of a guaranteed savings. But as a young man I would get a couple hundred back from federal and owe state a couple hundred.
