The whole University and College degree system is broken with plenty of blame from just about all sides to some extent. Govt., Universities, Bankers and to a large extent, Corporate America does not want to change the status quo. To them, it is a self-licking ice cream cone of a system.

Irony is these kids could not secure an auto loan without showing the ability to repay it. School loan though, shit, here is $100K+ and we will figure it out later. There really should be a prerequisite course prior to starting College that makes them understand completely what they are undertaking and assuming liability on and what the degree they want to pursue actually pays post graduation in the marketplace.

As to Parents and what their kids do in University, I would venture most are just plain ignorant of what their kid is doing until they show up on TV at a protest or call for bail money when they are arrested. Kids are just malleable and their brains have not fully developed until they are around 24-25 years of age. Every generation thinks they are going to change the world and latch on to whatever the next trend is and usually is just like lemmings jumping off a cliff, they are just following the next asshole in front of them.

Being the Boomer that I am, I know that I am wired differently. 10 years in the military sure helped with shaping my mindset as well. My kids are all from that "Participation Award" generation and it used to drive me batty watching them get Participation Awards. I was absolutely blown away when I attended my oldest daughter's HS graduation and there were 80+ "Valedictorians" sitting on the dais. 80+ Valedictiorians!! Heck, when I graduated, there was 1 in a class of 485 (and I missed it by 2).

But what you have called out is a bit of a problem with the "latch-key" kids because that's where parents started to get disengaged. My wife is an Assistant Principal and I am amazed at the stories she tells when she gets home each day, and that's mostly stories about how the parents behave when they are called in because their children were behaving the same way in the first place.

So you are correct in the statement that "parents are ignorant of what their kids are doing". Their kids are being raised by TikTok.

Well said gentleman. My wife and myself were in our very late 30s when we got married and never had kids. So didn't have to deal with the joys and agonies of have kids. We are DINKWADS. Double Income No Kids With A Dog(s).

We both had great and supportive parents who instilled common sense. Something clearly lacking in society these days. Also our responsibilities that we have to others.
