Ocala National Forest Trail Cleanup: Reopening a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail

The team here at RealTruck volunteered for a trail cleanup with onX and TreadLightly! out in the Ocala National Forest.

We gathered at Big Scrub Campgrounds, and they had everyone split into crews. Todd was on the landscaping crew clearing overgrown trails, and I was on trash duty. We ended up hauling out everything from carpet and tile to 18 mattresses and 50+ tires.

All in all, it was about 13,000 lbs of trash between two dumpsters!

Awesome!!! I’ve done a couple of these in different areas. Usually with whatever local 4X group was running them. Highly effective way of getting things cleaned back up.

National Forest's have always been a dumping ground by people to lazy to take it a few miles further to the dump. It pains me to see all the trash when I'm on a trail, knowing this is what will get it closed down.

Yep, the group of folks that we were out there with said that this is just the tip of the iceberg. That even though we hauled out this much, just as much and more comes back in. It's a vicious cycle, but the work had to be done.
