Kinda the same here. Not my first diesel but not fully trusting the dealership experience. Lowest man on the totem pole often gets the thankless job of oil changes. Now we only get two waves..... " vehicles sold on or after July 17, 2023, have a 2-year (24-month) membership and maintenance benefits for two oil changes and two tire rotations. " I would rather just do it myself rather than take a half day to complete what should only take 1 hour.In all of my purchased "NEW" vehicles, I always did an engine break-in and a series of early oil changes...
But
This being my first diesel, after much research, other than proper RPM and engine load seemed to be more important than an early oil change.
Like @1945gpw said, we probably will never know the difference... kinda like everyother oil thread...
To be honest, the main reason I went longer on my initial oil change was because I was having an internal battle whether or not to use my 3 free waves... I opted not to, decided to do it myself... hince a few miles got added before I could do it.
I wanted to do initial change at 2-3k but ended up doing multiple trips of several hundred miles working stuff for the boys before my filter came in. I ended up procrastinating and it was already at 5k.
I do plan on taking samples at each change to document the engine and see how long we can get it to go.
Other projects I worked during Jan and Feb was adding factory heated seats and 7 inch Uconnect to my wife's JLU so she will drive hers instead of mine. 3 weekends and about 7 hours of time to complete... of those hours 2 on dash wiring, 3 on taking seats apart and adding elements and the last 2 were cleaning up all kinds of crap the boys had let slip under the seats(lots of french fries, gum wrappers, candy etc) and then washing the carpets.
BTW Factory seat heater elements under cloth bucket seats heats up so much faster. Usually end up turning down to setting 2 or 1 when using heat for back pain.
