What oil pressers has folks seen after a fresh change? I might be jumping the gun here but changed oil using Pennzoil 5w-40 euro platinum and Mopar filter. With engine warm, saw about 25 - 27 psi at idle, 2k rpm was 80 psi. I don't recall seeing those types of pressures before, course I'm doing good to remember last week. I did run enough to get to fill temperature, pressure still up there.

Was fortunate to have oil and filter for another change, started with oil, no difference here. Used my other filter, same readings. Let engine run around 10 minutes while picking up some, low side down to 24 psi at idle, 70 psi at 2k.

Some running to do tomorrow, will see where things go, still concerned.

Those are the pressures I see with my gasser not sure if diesel runs two oil pumps

The 3.6 (gasser) runs only one oil pump.

You should see 29-30 under 3,000 RPM and 70 at 3,000 RPM and higher on the 3.6
Can't speak for the diesel.

Well I think I barked too soon. Pressure was 80 lbs at idle on a cold start this morning. Engine up to temp and still pressure high, but what I failed to look at last night was oil temperature, D/A!! All is good, with oil temp the same as coolant.

Maybe the diesel is configured differently, but 80 psi? That sounds awfully high - like the relief valve isn't working.

Maybe the owner of a diesel will speak up about "normal" but I don't want anything I have running 80 psi, hot or cold. That's a lot of stress on a pump

This is all normal. Diesel oil pressures are typically in the 20-70psi range. Nothing to worry about. If the pressure becomes a problem on the high end you'll likely get a MIL before seeing an issue. I know Ram trucks with the EcoDiesel can sometimes see 80-90psi until the engine and oil warms up enough.

And remember, this thread is in the EcoDiesel section, not the 3.6 section of the forum, so let's not go mixing the two.

LOL You haven't seen the oil pressure of what the VQ 3.7 Nissan engine runs. Cold start is 110+ psi. Hot idle is 37 psi. After 2500 rpms, it starts to raise to over 110+ psi at 7,500 rpm.

I don't know how that pump is driven but on "conventional" legacy engines, it'll tear things up.
I've seen shafts twisted in some, gears galled and toasted in others.
they must have a robust pump drive on that - chain, perhaps?

Thanks for all the feedback, life is full of continuous learning and this is another one of those times. Running 15W-40, 30W and 40W in our older diesel engines, I can understand the higher pressures but I didn't count on the thinner 5W-40 doing the same. Believe the tighter tolerances with today's machining processes keeps that thin oil at those higher pressures.

The pump is driven off the front of the crank. No chain or gears. It's like the 3G Hemi's. The crank goes through the pump.
