Fortunately for me, y'all have been more than real. I have bought a few things, sold a couple of things and I never had an issue. I'm far to skeptical about most things. It's always about how many posts, how long a person has been on here, and does it really save me any money over buying brand new from a manufacturer. Also "Cash is King"

I’ve been on other forums where there was a buyer scorecard type thing. Each member had a buy/sell score in their profile. Helps to weed out the ………. Weeds.

Call me old school, but if I can't see it, and touch it, it does not exist. Buying something on the interwebs seems like a way to scam. I only buy what I can see and touch. I know exists, and I can see the person selling, and they have a business to run. Even at flea markets I make sure the item is everything it is supposed to be before I pull out the cash. I never buy anything online. I do not know you, I do not know if the items really exist. And it is funny how places can take your payment instantly, but takes 7 to 10 days to return it. If I can't see you, you do not exist.

Are you saying you don't use Amazon, ebay, door dash, or order anything online? Or are you only talking private party transactions? The 1st is insane in this day and age, the 2nd I could see.

Ebay, with pay pal only. And I only go to places I know there is a business like a store or car dealership. I will buy from people I know within the Impala SS community, but that is it. No craigslist, or marketplace meetups. No venmo, no google pay, apple pay. People suck, so I limit dealing with people as much as possible when I do not know them, or they do not have a legit standing business I can go to. Johny basement dweller with his venmo, or huff and stuff payment method can suck it.

Bought online and forums for close to 30 years with multiple thousands of transactions. Only been "scammed" twice if you want to call it that and both times has been on Ebay with people buying my good stuff and then using the return process to send me back their broke junk.

Had plenty of false starts though of catching shit early and shutting it down. Having to claim to use the "wife" or "friends" accounts or feigning to be inept about online transactions and wanting considerations from you is a pretty common scam tactic.

That’s exactly why I never buy from private sellers unless they live 60 miles or less from me. Pickup only and cash in hand.

The worst thing that can happen, is you drove 60 miles and the person doesn’t show up. Sucks…but… my personal information (other than my phone number) were never given and my online payment sites were never shared.

I have a credit card that I've had for over 25-30 years. It only has a $2,000 dollar credit limit. They CC company keeps wanting to boost it; I keep saying no. I use that credit card for online purchases, even with well-known companies. If anyone hacks it, they ain't getting much. I know the CC company will reimburse any unauthorized charges, but the thief still gets to keep their booty. They're not getting much from me.

Hasn't happened yet, but it will.

I haven't bought or sold much on forums. Mostly because I don't trust anyone. I have though listed parts several times to give away, including on here. That way, the recipient really would have no standing to complain.

My bigger issue is if I'm trying to sell something I already paid taxes on when I bought it, I don't want to pay taxes again if I go through paypal and they send a 1099-K (I see the feds went back to the old 1099-K terms). But, I 100% understand why people wouldn't want to use paypal F&F. I guess in person cash sales at a high traffic public area (or local PD) is the best way to go.

I send a physical check after the item is received. Or it’s a give away. The risk is much greater when doing person to person transactions vs business transactions.

And that goes both ways….. If I’m selling something, I never send the item unless I receive payment first.

Same here. Nor would I take a personal check.

Some here have some oddball one sided stipulations like they forget it is a two way street of trust having to be extended on both sides of the deal to some degree.
