So I have royally screwed up my rear axle, and it’s going to have to be replaced. The shop is quoting about $2,000 just for the stock axle assembly. Then it would have to be regeared to matched the 4.88s up front.

With what they’re quoting, I’m seriously tempted to order new axles, drop down to 5.13 gears (or even 5.38?), and get an e-locker while I’m at it. Front axle is fine

I am running 37s now and likely won’t go any bigger for a while. If I do, it’ll more than likely be 38s. I don’t see 40s in my future.

Looking for suggestions on where to order the parts from and what direction to go. This is also time sensitive, as I need my truck to, you know, get around.

Maybe order a new axle with a rear locker in the gear ratio I want, and order matching gears for the front?

I can afford the upgrade, but I don’t have an unlimited budget either.

Beyond 5.13 on these the pinion gets quite small and begins to be a fail point of concern.
I know it was a concern on the JK but if you look at the difference in shaft size between the JK and the Advantek JL/JT axles, the pinion is friggin massive in these. The shot below is both 5.38 gears according to the forum post but either way the new cut pattern and fatter shaft with more splines makes them massively stronger.

To OP, if you can afford it then go for it but IMO you might find a take-off from someone upgrading to a D60 or something that would be a simple bolt-in fix. If you do plan on going 38s and wheel hard then a light D60 upgrade might not be the worst idea... just keep in mind that if you do gears in the rear you'll need to do the front too.

lots of options, without knowing details its hard to suggest.
if your axle housing is fine, then just order stronger chromoly shafts and a arb locker or eaton locker.

find a take off ruby rear axle and just regear to match the front.

if the whole thing is trashed and you want stronger then ruby. Look at ordering a ultimate dana 44 or dana 60 complete axle setup. D60 if you really plan to beat on it and don't know how to be nice with the skinny pedal in the rocks.
