I purchased this truck used last November with about 22k miles. On the first trip in February going up a hill on the 40 west of Needles in cool temps, I got the Service Electronic Throttle Control light and it went into limp mode. Cycled power and was able to drive home, all seemed normal. Just got the same light and limp mode two weeks ago, on the 101 going up the Conejo Grade in Camarillo in warm temps. This time used the code reader and got the P00AF. Disconnected the battery just to check voltage and that was fine. So not sure if the code was cleared because the battery was disconnected, but the ETC light went away. The jeep had very little power at this time. I made an appointment with the dealership and brought it in a last Monday. And just realized the bumper to bumper warranty expired in April. They would also address the steering pump recall during this visit.
The service advisor texted last Wednesday to let me know the jeep needs a new turbo assembly and it would take three to four days. I texted back to see if I could talk to the tech. He and the tech called within a half hour. Since I have a semi-permanently installed Alu-Cab Canopy camper with a full build-out, as well as a rear seat delete, I asked what his approach would be to do the replacement. He said that because I have the camper, he will be unable to lift the cab. Said he will attempt to just pull the engine forward, and if he is still unable to access it, will just remove the whole engine. I was pretty relieved to not have to deal with removing the camper. They also confirmed this would be covered under the powertrain 5-year/100k warranty. No mention of any additional labor for having to access the turbo by lifting the engine vs lifting the cab. I also just installed a brand new aluminum front bumper and winch the day before I made the appointment. He said they would not need to remove the bumper for this work. Relief again because it was a bear to install. I could only hope they wouldn't be using it as a step stool.
Dealer texted on Tuesday night that the jeep was ready. I picked it up and all seems fine so far. They only drove it three miles and the engine compartment was pristine as well as the bumper.
When I went over the paperwork last night, it said they lifted the cab and all the associated work with doing that. So not sure if the dealer is just eating that extra labor, but they didn't charge me anything for it either. They also noted the Intake manifold needed replacement, so that was done as well. And the recall inspection was performed, and noted that no replacement was needed at this time. All in all it went well.
