Curious as to why everybody is buying a new grill vs. painting the one you have? I was considering spraying mine with bedliner (or similar) or getting it sprayed with satin paint.

Is it more cost effective to buy a new one vs painted?

too hard to paint yourself?

I thought about plasti dipping my stock grille but decided to buy one instead. A couple reasons....
1. I’ve never plasti dipped or painted a vehicle part before and didn’t want to screw it up.
2. I saw some grilles that had light bars in them and fancied em.
3. Swapping them out would take around 10 minutes if I wanted a different look. (Admittedly longer if you have lights wired into them.)
4. Grilles are relatively cheap. The one I just got was a smidge over $200.
If you painted it yourself, you’d save money. If someone did it for you, you’d probably pay the price of a new grille.

The new aftermarket grills are so cheap nowadays.
I bought a grill for my last Jeep on amazon and was pretty happy but the color match wasnt perfect and I missed the Jeep 7 slot grill after a while.
Pic is pre lift kit.

This time I sprayed the stock Gladiator grill inserts black with plastidip and im pretty happy with it for my first time “dipping” something. Was not hard at all and very forgiving compared to painting.

Plastidip it. 1-2 cans is cheap, and easily removable do you don’t like it
I have never plastidipped anything. Does it just peel off if you want it to? Does it chip off from rocks? Intrigued.

I think the sahara/overlands and rubicons have the factory inserts.

Id recommend watching the videos from Fonzi with dipyourcar on youtube. I was very skeptical but things worked great on all the parts I dipped.
make sure you do enough coats and hit all the angles.

it peels of fine if you do enough coats. If not a little scrubbing may be involved. Not sure about the chipping but I doubt it since its more like a rubber coating than regular paint.

I sprayed my overland grill. From the looks at most pictures it would appear that they all have the same pieces just different colors. I will try to post what pictures I did take when it was apart. It was just torx screws and clips to take it apart and apply coats of dip and reassemble. I would say the hardest part is to have enough patience between coats to allow it to dry.

im terrible at painting, But plastidip is very forgiving. very easy. Should provide protection from rock chips. Peels off very easy. Check out YouTube for some tips, seems like many light coats is the way to go

I think the longer it’s on, the more difficult it is to peel off. I’ve only heard this. I just did my badges last week, so I have no idea how hard it would be to take off a year from now.

That looks great! I didnt even take mine apart before spraying the inserts. Just took the grill off.
I would if I had to do it over tho.

It's incredibly easy, just follow the instructions on the can and you'll be fine.

I plastidipped the grill on my Range Rover Sport two years ago and haven't had any peel off, no rock chips, looks great yet!

Bought 2 cans of black plastidip over the weekend. Going to paint the grill today. I will post some pics before & after. Plan on leaving bezels and inserts factory charcoal color (white JTR).
