Painted your own raw bumper?

If you’ve painted your own front bumper I’d like to know what paint products you used and how it’s holding up. I have a raw steel bumper sitting in my garage and a general idea of what I wanna do. Would like to hear about your experience before I choose a primer and paint product. Thanks!

Clean off all the mill scale, make sure it is bare metal. Remove all oil, finger prints etc. I have had decent luck with rustoleum primer and I usually use their spray truckbed coating and then topcoat with whatever color. Rear bumpers hold up great, front bumpers take a beating from road debris. I've even been hit with an errant tee shot going by a golf course.

I think it was Rustoleum truck bed coating that I used a few years ago on some parts. It was easy to spray with good coverage, but it didn’t hold up well against scratching, etc. Too bad because it was very easy to work with.

Mind posting a pic of what the finish looks like? Is it more gloss or matte?

paint on sliders were about 8 years old with no care, no washing, AZ sun.

Paint on bumper is about 10 years old no care no wash, all the AZ sun, you can see a shiny spot on the bumper, i must have hit it with some touch up more recently.

I have powder coated my new bumper for the JT.

Powder coat is the way to. All the parts on all of my Jeeps get powder coated.
