In kansas... we get boned on our taxes... 9.3% sales tax where i live and im not sure what the property tax rate is but i think i had to pay around 600 or 700 on property taxes... and we have to pay property taxes yearly to get our tags...
I have lived up your way and remember all too well. Taxes on EVERYTHING.

Texas pays 6.25 sales tax on vehicles. General sales tax on purchases is around 8% and property taxes vary by area. In big cities you can easily have property taxes around 9k on a 300k home. No State income tax but the property tax can really get High

The real trade in value you get will be around 27k, everything else will be smoke and mirrors

... I thought I had a slight advantage by trading in this year instead of a couple down the road. ...
You do have an (escalating) advantage to do it sooner. The longer you wait, the less your trade is worth and prices for new trucks will just continue to rise (MSRP on my '20 Rubicon build is now $1k more for a 2021.) Accordingly, the smaller the difference between the two, the less in taxes you will ultimately pay.

The way values of ALL used cars and trucks fall, there's really no point in considering resell value. Buy what makes you happy.

As blunt as I can be. It's your money and your decision. I doubt anyone here wants to be your Mother. LOL Well, maybe some do, who knows. LOL

A few of my gear head buddies cautioned me not to buy the Gladiator because it was a first year new model automobile. Their opinion was to wait 3-4 years until the bugs are worked out. Since I’m not getting any younger, I decided to pull the trigger on a LE last summer. I’m so glad I didn’t wait. I’ve had an absolute blast especially in the summertime... for 2 summers now.

So you’ve tested the water and you’ve concluded the water feels great. So much so, you’d like the pool to have some extra niceties like a diving board. Lol, I’m not sure if this analogy hits home or not but I’m sure you work hard for your money like the rest of us do on here. If you can afford to trade up, then allow me to give you a friendly nudge towards doing so.

Jeeps ARE kinda like pools, both are way more fun when tops are off!!
