I just did this. Because the total tranny capacity is 9 quarts, thatās what I bought. I figured the rest would be used on the next change, so no harm. I used around 6.5 quarts with a traditional drain and pan drop. It probably would have been slightly less if the tranny didnāt get too warm during the fill process, causing a bit to drain out. I then let it cool and checked it again. A bit had to be added as a result.Planning to change transmission pan from factory to PPE, for those who have done it, what's the oil capacity once you install PPE pan? Not sure if 8 quarts will be enough as I will order online. Thanks
IĀ“m looking at this option. I have a couple quick questions....1, did you use the Mopar fluid, ZF, fluid, or Valvoline Max Life ATF? IĀ“m seeing a lot of folks running that Valvoline and havenĀ“t seen anyone with an issue. IĀ“m leaning toward the Mopar or ZF, but with extra capacity, the Valvoline would save quite a bit of money.I just did this. Because the total tranny capacity is 9 quarts, thatās what I bought. Edit: I should add that the tranny holds 9 quarts with the Oem pan. So maybe 9.5 with the PPE pan and the 3.6.
I did all the research before doing this. Absolutely use mopar fluid. Because youāre only draining some of it, and lots stays in the tranny, you donāt want to mix fluids. Fluid is cheaper than a tranny.IĀ“m looking at this option. I have a couple quick questions....1, did you use the Mopar fluid, ZF, fluid, or Valvoline Max Life ATF? Second question is, did you wrap the exhaust pipe under the transmission pan to keep it from heating up? I“ve read of people doing that, but I am not sure it is really necessary.
I forgot the other thing, Iād plan to replace the gasket. Mopar redesigned these with two sealing surfaces, very similar to the construction of the diff cover seals. Way better design. My original gasket was seeping. This one is doing great after some significant miles on it, and not easy miles.IĀ“m looking at this option. DEI makes some neat pipe shields:... the recommendation I received was to insulate only the top of the pipe to allow heat to escape below.
Any time. I didnāt save the package, and did exactly that. Dealer with my vin. Mine took 6.5, but it would have been closer to 6 if it didnāt warm up during the fill and quickly overflow some. Watch that tranny temp during the fill and check. You really need two people. One in the cab shifting and watching temps, and one underneath. Thanks for all the info!
Did you need more than 6 quarts to do the re-fill, and do you know the part number on the new Mopar gasket? If not, I can just go to the dealer and give them my VIN. I“ve not seen any seeping, but taking it off and re-using it might just be what starts it. So I“d prefer to have that new gasket, for sure.
Those look very nice.DEI makes some neat pipe shields:
