Pretension on Flat Surface

So this is first winch and has a synthetic Rope. I have watched some videos but it seems they are all on an incline. I have o access to a location with an incline. Just flat, flat, and more flat. I have access to a lot of parking lots, etc. Is there a best way to pretension without an incline? I can easily hook up to trees or poles, etc for strong anchor points. I've got all the necessary stuff just looking for best proceedure.

Yep, parking brake lightly set works, or get a friend to sit in the cab and apply just a bit of brake pressure. ?

Yes, what they said. I was lucky and my neighbor wanted a big honkin' LP powered stationary generator pulled off a cart onto a concrete slab he was mounting it on.
I volunteered...........
then later we used my lawn tractor - he sat on my JD holding it in reverse while I winched the line in the rest of the way. Sort of tore up his yard a bit but got my winch wound up.

I did a pretension today but I don't think it came out correct or as it should be. But since I have never done one before not sure. The autopark was driving me crazy where I could not watch the line roll back on. Forgot that just clicking the seatbelt will disengage it. I think I am going to redo it again this time with me in the front where I can watch the line and make sure it falls into position evenly.

Just put your transfer case in neutral and slightly apply the parking brake, you can then stand in the front and make sure your drum is winding evenly.

Yea I did that but it kept going into autopark and I was so pissed at it I totally forgot if you just click the seatbelt you can get around the autopark. I will redo it again. I know the bottom two layers went on good its the other layers that I think need to be redone

If you put the tcase in neutral then auto park won’t have any effect as the transmission won’t be connected to the axles.

I wish that was how mine was working but every time I put it in Neutral and opened that door to go upfront the truck immediately went into Autopark.

You’re putting the transmission in neutral, we’re talking about the transfer case.
