Ordered a set of motobilt diff covers to replace the chintzy factory ones when I regear. They deliver in the white. I’m thinking about having them powder coated but then thought about the inside of the cover and the sealing flange. I would think these would be best left raw. Agree? Can you have a steel part only coated on one side? Or does the powder adhere to the entire thing because of the electric charge? Also need to consider the fill plug.

I would think rattle can paint and on the outside only.

That way when they get beat up, you can touch them up with more rattle can.

Considered that. Degrease, etching primer, automotive paint.

I put poison spider diff covers on my last two jks and didn’t mess with the inside. Personally, I say hit them with brake cleaner, spray with self etching primer, then rattle can them. Put the powder coat money elsewhere

This right here. Get the most common can of chassis black, or universal black paint you can get at the hardware store...

Follow proper prep, and paint it up!

It's one of the lowest points, it's bound to catch up on something, if and when you do decide to go offroad!

Yes, powder coat the outside if you want the finish to last. Do not powder coat the inside nor the flange - it is not good for the gear oil. Just clean the inside with brake cleaner before installation. Nodular iron tends to be dirty because of the casting process.

? I've got a set of OEM covers powder coated on just outside from when a friend got his powder coating setup. Since he needed something to try it on.
