I am thinking of the SE for my JT. Pretty often I end up taking several gas cans to the station for filling. I would not want to drive with the cover sealed. Looking at the instructions, I see it's easy to flip the back panel completely open, but I was wondering if any of you have come up with a trick to just partially open the back panel.

I could see a rubber block and a tie down, for example, to just crack the back panel open for ventilation. Or perhaps one of you have come up with an alternative?

I've owned two Diamondback HD covers, both on Ram 1500s. The first one was much better quality. I felt like it was worth what I paid for it. By the time I bought the second one, the price had nearly doubled and the quality had gone down significantly. They were mainly cosmetic differences in the Linex coating and how the diamond plate pattern did not line up between the panels. I won't be buying another Diamondback cover.

I have owned two SE covers, one on a Ram 1500 and now on my Jeep Gladiator. I think you can't go wrong buying one. As far as keeping open or closed with fuel in the back is really not an issue. The bed of a truck is not completely sealed off, so it will vent. During the hurricane Helen, I loaded several fuel cans and transported several miles from home to gas station and back. The bed is lined and fuel does not hurt it. I did not smells of fuel coming out of it afterwards.

Looks great! Thanks for the reply. I had not thought of the fact the bed is not completely sealed, but you are right! Still considering a few options, but I really like how the SE/HD can be opened from the top and from the front or back. Not thrilled with taking off the bed rails for shims, but it's a one time project anyway.

Part of me wants a retractable, but there is so much that can go wrong with those, from freezing to leaking, that I want something simpler.

Right now the other contenders would be a Diamondback Switchback or Lomax tri folds.

PS: Hope you did ok after Helen . . .

Thank you... we were fine at the end of the day. As far as putting on the shims, I went to the dealer bought new rail caps before the cover came in. It made the process faster. As for water leaking, they all leak at some point. The customer service is among the best. If you have any issues, they will help work through it.
