So, I had no idea where to put this, but I have questions for the owners/users of older models of Jeep. I have found a 1986 Grand Wagoneer nearby for $2500, with 132K miles on it. Original 5.2 AMC 360 in it.

I have already asked the owner questions about reliability/age damage and the like. Its in fair shape, but does have a couple of problems. The rust around the rear wheel wells I can take care of myself. However, it does need new carburetor seals.

Knowing this, going in, is there anything you all can tell me about this particular vehicle and its components that I should be worried about? So far, the seller has been up front and honest. The Jeep is still mobile and driveable, but does need some TLC.

Good buy for a fixer-upper?

Thank you for your time.

PM me if you'd like to keep this off the forum.

I think that is a good buy. These are cool old trucks and I have had several of them. Will be glad to assist any way I can. Don't think you can go wrong at that price.

For $2500, I would buy ten of them. The 360 is actually a 5.9 liter. Grand Wagoneers are very hard to come by today. I would buy it even if it needed every system replaced as long as the rust is limited. You have a great starting point to build your way. I would keep the 360, but maybe upgrade it to a later version, and or add Holly Fuel injection.

Thank you, all. I'll mull it over and see what I can do. At work and have to head back to camp soon. Will be back around 6pm AKST, if anyone else has thoughts and opinions.

But my basic worries for the vehicle is what to look for to make it reliable first. I'll tinker with awesomeness later.

But looks like I'm about to buy a Grand Wagoneer.

The first car that I have memory of as a child was my dad's '74 Cherokee. It was the start of my addiction. I've owned 3 Waggys and a couple Cherokees over the years. Absolutely love FSJ's.

You are talking about a smog era, carbureted dinosaur of the engine. On top of that, it is 40 years old. Set your expectations accordingly. If you want to keep it carb'ed, Holley makes a 350cfm 2 barrel that worked really well on the 360. But as much as they cost, I would second the FI conversion.

In the time it took me to drive from my post back here to my camp, someone already swooped in and bought it. Crap.

Oh, well. Another $2500 I can add onto my big trip from Anchorage to Sequoia NP next year.

Thank you all for your help.

Is it a Grizwald mobile? You know, all that wood paneling on the side? 🤔 🤔 🤔 :CWL: :CWL: :CWL: :CWL: :CWL:
