Well, then MB is wrong because they have tons of bulletins out regrading mice damage to wiring and they specifically cite soy. But it doesn't matter. The little shits are terribly destructive and the only way I have stopped them is with bait blocks. Works everytime.

I prefer glue traps over bait blocks. You won't lose a dead one and you won't find a mess of bait.

Last thing you want is to attract them, the find your wires THEN the food/bait.
I agree with the glue traps - but I've had the little shits get stuck on one end and drag the damned glue trap all over before they finally got stuck enough. I've seen my glue traps end up feet away. Still, better than a dead one where you can't find it in a vehicle or wall, and the bait attracting critters when you want to keep them away, not invite them in (a reason I won't eat any "take out" food in my vehicles)


As far as why - besides the snipped from a study I posted elsewhere, there's all of this - note they mention HOME WIRING...............

It's a problem with house wiring, wiring on classic cars (My Eagle and Javelin are at risk - I've received wiring harnesses from people to repair where the mice had chewed them up - harnesses from the 70s and 80s)

Even some home tip blogs claim "Your house wiring is being chewed because it's soy based" so many times people are repeating what they've seen or heard and it seems to make sense, so they list that as a reason. Problem is - mice have been chewing on wires since before 2000 when that sort of insulation became common. My heat pump outside unit sure didn't have it. Mice chewed the wiring enough to cause real damage.

This is also just a guess - but it's been proven that wasps, ants and bugs in that family are attracted to electrical fields, that's why they love to hang around outside AC units and such.

And finally - this article below. However, experts at various companies have tried to create insulation that mice didn't chew on, with pretty much no result, and that includes making it without soy or nut-based products. Only special wraps seem to help, but you can do the same taking tabasco and water and spraying it around on things. I kept rabbits from chewing on young bushes that way.

The bit about soy has appeared in enough places and keeps getting repeated and soon becomes the de facto explanation, even though it's been going on since before such insulations, and research has shown - mice will chew what they want to chew.

I've got some self propelled mice, rat, rodents and snake catchers available. AKA self propelled trip hazards. I can say that they have definitely helped in my area. Other than some times they want attention and don't like me being gone.

She decided that I needed to stop and take a hour or so off. Also I've had some luck by leaving hood propped up some.

We have two Wire Fox Terrorist's (Terriers), this is Sarge. Before he was 1 year old he'd caught and had eaten the hind leg of his first squirrel (who's a good boy!) Neighbors complain about them, they avoid our house... I think they know to steer clear.

Nothing worse than tearing the interior out to find the source of the smell from a dead critter. The closer you get to it. The worse the smell. Vicks on the upper lip didn't help either.
