When determining noises in the differential - there are multiple places for "play" to come into play -
There's the lash between pinion and ring gear, then the lash or play between the carrier gears (spider gears or carrier pinions) and the side or axle gears.
If the play is all felt in the pinion (drive pinion) and ring gear - that's not good.

I believe the typical is .006 - .010 backlash for pinion to ring gear for differentials like these.
Some get into .012-.015 depending.

Some are tight as .003" to .006". This one is .003" from the factory.

Racing is often tight like .003-.006 (but you are hammering the crap out of it, esp with a manual transmission, too)

Factory spec's.
Some GM run that spec, too.
Ford 8.8 has a spec in the area of .008 -.012 with .004 max variation (you check at least 4 locations around the ring gear)

The video didn’t upload the first try.
This only happens when the car is warm and the diff is warm after driving 10 miles or so.

Is it that click? I hear exhaust and engine and normal drive train, but a click in there every couple of seconds. The sound is wrong for pinion as the pinion spins several times between the "click" or whatever it is (audio is so tough as it comes across very different on different computers/phones/tablets and picks up everything else louder than your target noise)
If it's that click sound, try to determine - is it perfectly timed with one rotation of a wheel, for example, and that can help narrow things down.

Limited slip itself won't make sounds when going straight as there's no speed difference between the wheels - or the gears and clutches inside the carrier.

Hi,
Yes it’s the click, the video is 2 short videos stitched together, the click only happens once when accelerating from a stop of coasting slowly.
I also got some replies on fb saying it could be sway bar endlink mounts to the frame, I’ll have to tape that too. But my first instinct was that it could be something with the drive train and wanted to make sure.
Thank you for the response :)

I had this problem recently. Same click/clunk. Put a Go-Pro underneath and then took the truck with the video to the dealer. They took off the diff cover and it was full of metal shavings. 10k miles on the truck.
