Has anyone done it?

I'm considering it, and dumping the lower skid and cutting off the lower frame "horns".

Seems like a lot of nonreversible work but for what gain? No offense but I see a bunch of downside and zero upside to doing this. What am I missing?

I am about to put Mojave shocks on my rubicon. I’ll mount them on the side like this pic. I don’t know if I would move them if I had a stock Mojave, but I won’t have any of the brackets and let’s be honest, it looks cool mounted vertically.

I understand completely.

The upside is: Below the front bumper clearance is gained. And the reservoirs are moved to a higher location out of harms way.

I love what Jeep / Mopar is doing with the long awaited JT & the Wrangler R 392. And I even love that they had the balls to build the Grand Cherokee Track Hawk and Ram TRX. But marketing is marketing, and I humbly think that they mounted the reservoirs in front down low to mimic the Rubi's sway disco arrangement.
I think that there is a better place to mount reservoirs.

As for cutting off the frame horns: I've been 4 wheeling since about 1976... and those lower frame 'horns' are a head scratcher.

But I digress.... I won't be cutting of those 'frame horns' for a few years because I recently paid home buying money ( in some states) for a Jeep Truck!!
But I will be relocating the shock reservoirs as soon as possible.

Interested in this. I want to install the Evo quarter pounder but it requires cutting off those lower frame horns where the reservoirs are mounted. Let me know where you end up relocating them. Maybe into the engine bay?

I'll have to look under my Mojave tomorrow in the daylight, but I was thinking on top of the spring perches or in the engine bay. (As you mentioned).

I came to an unscientific and unverified conclusion of why Jeep is welding the front lower frame 'horns' since the JK era:
It's gotta be frontal impact and frame crumple zones for impact safety.
Pushing the frame and engine lower under the cabin in the event of serious frontal impact.
