Replacing bumper question

This maybe a silly question, but I thought it was better to ask. I'm thinking of replacing the front bumper and I noticed a kind of black grating near the light and I was wondering if they have something to with function or just for looks. I thought it would be possible that it has something to do with auto stop or some other electronics. I've included a photo in which I highlighted in blue the area I'm talking about.

If your Jeep has a adaptive cruise all that stuff is at the top of the windshield. Good to go for any bumper you want

Purely cosmetic. I have a Rubicon with almost every option except the steel bumper and just put on a stubby aftermarket bumper. The only wiring I had to deal with was the fog lights.

Thanks guys (my "guys" means females too). I thought it was cosmetic but I wanted to ask anyway. I knew me windshield had most of the ACC (found out when my windshield had to be replaced and calibrated) but I didn't want any surprises.

Yes, in that big box by the mirror. In fact there's a cover supplied with the JT that you are supposed to put on the front of that enclosure when you drop the windshield - to protect the radar stuff up there. So if you get this funny black piece that looks like a semi-square cover for something - it is. (for those with the ACC, anyway)
