Well look at it this way, even if this next attempt fails you always have the bed lights to tap

We'd all like to know if that step up converter works.

Thanks again for posting the question, because it gave me an opportunity to figure out how I might do it, and that's going to be with the bed light. Good luck!

The step up converter worked, but I think I fried it. So I guess it doesn't work now.

Has anyone confirmed the bed lights give off 12v?

**edit** they seem to work just fine now, but you can't lock/unlock a bunch of times in a row.

I have not measured the voltage on that line but I expect it to be 12V. It does not dim while turning off like the dome lights do. You should be able to tap into it easily with the Posi taps that you used.

I just wired up a dust light to the line for the bed lights. Aside from a fight to get the bed light out (the clip is on the top of the light) it was easy and the circuit has plenty of power for a 2x6 Rigid bar.

Should be fine for rock lights.

Have any actual hard numbers to know that it has plenty of power and the wire gauge is thick enough? Or is it just your gut feel?

it's 20-ish gauge wire, I didn't mic it. So that's good for over an amp depending on which table you look at.

It also works fine experimentally.
