Rolling stops

I always turn my ESS off too...that and the heated seat are the first buttons pushed after starting. LOVE my heated seat, even in the summer as it helps with my sore back.

I've been driving for the past few years shifting into neutral coming to a stop, and staying in neutral while sitting at a light, stopped. Pop into drive and gently take off when the light turns green.

I look at it this way...in idle with the vehicle in neutral, it will use less gas (how much? Zero clueage ) because it doesn't have to add that smidgen of throttle to counteract the engaged transmission to maintain the 600 RPM idle speed.

I don't see anyone saying Jeep invented ESS.
Yes, peddle moderation works most of the time, but not always. I guess they don't have any downhill grades approaching stop signs in Iowa.

As far as ESS, I have driven different vehicles with ESS, the Jeep is the most clunky out of them all.
But that was not the point of the original post.

Then what was the point of the original post? The whole purpose of ESS is to shut off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop. If you don't want that to happen, then you need to press the button to turn ESS off. Rolling stops to try and prevent ESS from activating is a choice of the driver, and not a very good one.

I have a diesel and disable ess most all the time. We are supposed to allow the turbo cool down before the engine shuts off so I would rather idle the 2 minutes at a stop light rather than let the ess shut the engine off. Even around town the turbo temp is above 500 degrees.

I've had the 2.0 Turbo engine on a Cherokee and 2 JL's. ESS is a bad idea for a turbo engine because of turbo lag and cool down of the turbo.

I think their poor battery system design does a good enough job of encouraging people not to turn it off.

Lol, amazing how we are all different I hate the heated seats it has to be 20 below before I turn my on. I dont like sweating
ESS is a useless idiotic contraption.IMHO turn it off every time it starts
