I’ve used powerful magnets to attach a few things inside the cap…. Lights, fire extinguisher. They attach very strong to cap!!!

I wonder how hard it is to drill through SS… special technique or bits?

Nothing special. I drill into my SS bed kitchen more than I’d care to admit with standard drill bits. Slow and steady.

Just make sure you seal the penetrations well. Generally, any time I penetrate my Alu-Cab canopy, I try to use pop rivets with a little silicone.

On another note, I’ll admit that they look bad@$$ but personally I am adverse to having things hanging off the sides to catch on tree branches and such. One good snag and you could start tearing things off.

I don't know what your offroad experience is but, man, I even had a ton of heartburn doing this for fear of it getting caught by trees branches:

I finally decided that i can buy a replacement canopy door if "things go sideways."

You know, I have seen where peopl actually mounted molle panels inside the doors. It keeps them from getting snagged, reduces the effort you need to take to prevent theft of the items and actually is a good use of otherwise unused space inside the canopy.

But … it would make my rig look nicer and more functional … I’m still trying to figure out gasoline rotopax storage options!

I get wanting to hang some rotopax off those doors but that’s a lot of weight hanging there waiting to tear a door off: 3 gallon RotoPax at 6lbs/gallon is 18 lbs plus the weight of the rotopax and associated hardware. If you try to hang 2 of those on one door, that’s over 40 pounds on that door. That also makes opening the door difficult. Mount them in your bed. That also keeps the weight lower and center of gravity lower.

I built a little rack over the wheel well:

I have been contemplating where to mount fuel as well. I don't like the idea of having it INSIDE my SmartCap, thinking the fumes/smell will annoy the heck out of me. Hanging on the side, have the same concern as mentioned about scraping and dealing with the weight on the doors when opening. So far the only other option I have seen without going on a roof rack are those that hang off the door hinges. Anyone have other solutions?

I keep some spare fuel in the bed and never had any leaks, just keep some extra gaskets for the Rotopax around for when they get old. My buddy has them on the roof rack on a JL, no leaks.

FWIW, I was agonizing the same issues. I really didn’t want to do the door hangers because I just wasn’t sure I liked the look. But I’ll be honest with you, I have not ever smelled the gas/fumes inside my canopy with a properly sealed rotopax. If you think about it, if you can smell it, then it means it’s leaking and then you have a different problem.

Try putting one in there for a week and then check for yourself. Seriously, if I only opened the passenger and rear doors of my canopy (so that you couldn’t see them mounted inside the driver side), you wouldn’t even know they were there…

T-Rock,
You only use two clamps for your Cap?
