Installing the Frontrunner rack. I’ll be installing a 270 awning so I’m guessing it needs to be offset to the rear. The rack won’t exactly sit center so it’s either offset front or rear.

Looks nice! Is that the Frontrunner Slimline rack? That is what I have awaiting my RSI install. I also have an OVS 270 awning I plan to add once the Frontrunner slimline is installed. Curious how it will turnout. I will need to figure out that offset as well on my adventure so that the 270 wrapping around the back will clear the rear window/door when open.

fairly easy to assemble before installing onto the cap. Assemble the rack per the instructions, but then go ahead and install the the feet on the rack too. once each nut/bolt get tight back off so just enough tension to still slide for final adjustments. same goes for the feet that go into the cap rails. I was able to lean the rack onto the tailgate, then stood on the tailgate and lifted it up on the cap myself. place down some cardbaord from the shipping materials and line up the feet and remove the cardbaord. when you tighten it wont take long to do each nut/bolt.

I might pick up the overlandpros 270 6k awning this Sunday along with the wall kit. They’re only maybe 45 minutes from me to pick up locally. I debated on the Ovs too as they seem to be exactly the same but the wall kits are different and pros made me a local deal.

SAD news - after aver 8 month wait, and the high of finally receiving the @SmartCap undamaged I started assembly in my garage. This long wait made me VERY cautious assembling, I really didn't want to create any issues.
I spent a couple hours applying a white vinyl wrap to the roof panel to help keep the interior cool in this Arizona climate before starting the actual assembly.

I was meticulous in following the installation guide instructions. I hand tighten everything and got the whole cap assembled, then started tightening to torque specifications. Sides, front and rear to each other first as step 6 describes.

When I got to the roof attachment only 4 of the 10 nuts will tighten, 6 just spin when I attempt to tighten them beyond my hand-tightening.

I am 100% certain I did not cross-threads etc when starting or hand-tightening these nuts. I didn't use power tools, I spent hours going slowly & re-checking instructions to ensure it would be assembled solid and correctly.
Now I don't want to install it on my JT with the roof not fully attached. Will it leak, will it vibrate and cause damage when offloading, is it even safe to put on the JT...all questions that I don't like the answer to that is in my head.

I don't know what can be done beyond tearing the whole thing apart and installing a new roof panel. I sent an email to RSI Support, but how many months will it take to resolve this?
NOT HAPPY this weekend.
Anyone else have an issue like this?

I still need to contact them. I had maybe 6 bolts that were stripped when removing the blocks to flip them around. I was able to clean the threads with my tools but I’m afraid the blocks are messed up so I’ll be asking for replacements just in case I have to reseal the cap and not be able to reuse hardware if I take it apart again

Hold them with a wrench inside the roof tracks

Yeah I got a message from Dan at RSI saying that if I lift it and prop it up on something so I can reach under to the track that I can hold it with an Allen wrench while torquing the nuts.
going to try that.

Quick install update. Got the overlandpros 270 6k yesterday, identical to the OVS mounting, there is just under 2” of clearance. I was thinking that the mounts the awning came with might put it too high but we shall see. The mounts won’t work with the frontrunner slats unless you make about an inch of spacers to clear the side rails.

Edit: added quick test fit of the spacers, reinforced rubber material. These are VERY stout they might compress 1/4” and still be able to torque them down.

I had to do the same thing. But I was able to just roll something underneath as I picked up on the top. You only need about 2-3” of clearance to fit the ratchet or Allen key

Hi Tony–
Just checking in with you to see if you were able to get this "pro tip" to work?
We're so glad to see that the cap arrived, and are really looking forward to seeing it on your rig.
