Rubicon with 37s?

I just purchased a 2021 JTR with the 4.10 gears. I am going back and forth over whether to go with 35's or 37's. My question is this, if I go with 37's, do I need to change out the gears. It is brand new and I really don't want to mess with the gears until the warranty expires. Also, What are the pro's and con's of the 35's vs the 37's?

I have a JTR Manual Tranny. Stock wheels and Lift with 37's. No Gear changes for me. I aint winning any 1/4 miles off the line. It's slower. Eventually I'll get a lift, but it's 99.9% my daily driver so I don't need it now. I don't ever use 6th gear. Towing is not a huge impact for me, but I don't tow anything over 3500-4000 lbs so I'm fine.

Others may disagree with the need for gear change, but it's fine for me.

Advantage of 37's over is "badassery"...and also more clearance for off roading. Remember that lifts alone will not give you clearance. Suspension Lifts raises the tub but You need bigger wheels for the axles to have better clearance.

I recently got 37" and 2.5" Evo Lift / Falcon 3.2's , It is like 20% Slower or so . Just feels heavy but once your rolling its not a big deal . MPG will drom quite a bit but ;looks very nice . Keep your stock tires for a while in case you want to switch back anytime . If I were to Choose I would prob do it again , not planning to do 4.88 gears at all .

I have a JK Rubicon, not JT yet, with 37” tires and manual transmission for over 10 years as my daily driver and never re-geared, and it’s just fine on road and off-road, and my mpg is at 18 or 19 even after so many years.

When I finally get a Rubicon JT manual, I plan to put 37” tires and didn’t consider re-gearing.

What I’m not sure about is if 2.5” lift is the magic number? 2” I think is not enough, but at 3.5” Jeep may sit too high for 37” tires. Pictures of lifted JTs vary so much, they seem inconsistent. I can’t tell. For a JK it was clear 4”. For a TJ is was clear 4.5”.

You are likely fine in Georgia (assuming you have 8 speed AT). Don’t expect to tow very much, regardless of those that say they tow 7k on stock gears. I just regeared to 5.13 because I’m at high elevation in Utah. Even here, you could “live with” stock gears.

I'm going to find out next month! I flat towed mine all over last season with 35's. I don't think I'll have any problems with the new 37's. I have friends that tow their JLURs with 37's.

I got a Max tow with 4.10 gears and Rubicon front springs and Rubicon shocks installed plus a 2.5" SST Readylift kit and I didn't regear. I'm getting 17.3 mpgs on 37's and was getting 18.3 on 35's all running winter gas. In the summer I was getting right at 19 on the 35's so I expect the mpgs to go up some on 37's once the winter blend gas goes away. Pictures for reference

You won’t NEED to re-gear. Will it help, sure but not necessary. I have a Tazer to calibrate the shift points and correct the speedo, plus I added a pedal commander. To be honest I don’t recall what it was like to drive with the stock 33s or the 35s that I only kept for about 5000 miles. If you live in a really hilly area, you may take a beating on mileage but it’s not bad in Ohio. Posted these on another thread on tire size as a comparison. 2.5 lift with 37s. Stock 4.10 and it's fine. DD I did mention to the wife I may change to a light weight set of wheels and smaller tires. I could not believe her response. Ya. And leave your man card at home.

2" mopar lift on 37s and I'm getting about 15 mpg, but it doesn't see hardly any highway miles, so it'll be interesting to see this summer. When I got it, it had the lift already done, and was on 33s. When I got the 37s, I didn't notice any performance loss. But it doesn't go into 7th or 8th unless I'm on a down hill with a tail wind and in manual mode. I don't feel like I NEED to regear, but I will eventually down the road.

I just went 37’s today. Test drive was 20 miles half hiway at 65-75 with ACC on at 75. Felt fine to me, no big change from 35’s. I’ll re-gear to 4.88 or 5.13 sometime down the road. When we went 35’s on the wife’s old 2016 JKU, we HAD to go 4.56 and should have gone 4.88.

If I didn't have the 4:1 Rubicon transfer case, I would be looking more seriously at a re-gear. 4lo is not compromised in any way off road, unlike my previous Jeep with the non-Rubi transfer case and larger tires. I had to re-gear that one. Constantly on the brakes on steep down hill off road trails.
I see 8th regularly on level sections of hiway. Re-programming with a Tazer mini made a huge difference. It shifts better than it did with 35's before I bought the Tazer.
I also will probably go back to 35's someday, when this JT turns in to a mall and forest road cruiser. So for now, I am staying with the stock gears.

I went with 37 inch milestar Patagonia tires on my 2020 Jeep rubicon gladiator and I love the look and the ride Is great and it moves down the road with no problems it has the 4:10
gears with a 2.5 leveling kit up front and 3/4 rear spacers in the rear
