I need a bit of assistance. My 2023 Gladiator Mojave (purchased new currently 2,000 miles) is making a grunting noise and shuttering badly when the Selec-Speed is engaged. After waiting 6 weeks for an appointment, I brought it for service. The service tech stated that it's Downhill Assist and they all do the same thing. According to the Owner Manuel that's incorrect. The service advisor and I test drove several other new Gladiators/Wranglers with this option. Most operate as described in the owners manual (nice and smooth no noise or shuttering) but one other had the same symptoms. Service advisor told me he would be looking into it further but is not responding my update requests. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal? Any assistance is much appreciated.

The way it works is it uses the idle speed control to speed your Jeep up to the speed you've set and it uses the ABS to slow it back down to keep it in range. What you are hearing is the ABS working. I had the same thing freak me out when I first used mine. It would be nice if they did a better job of explaining how it works in the owner's manual.

depends on what shuddering is to you. If the whole truck is vibrating your teeth out, problem. If its just ABS shudder, normal. Grunting should be the sound of your rotors pushing past your pads under pressure which again is normal. It may be louder than a brand new because the new jeep won't have bedded rotors yet and you may also have debris from the trail in yours. I personally only use selec speed up hill. everything else i do manually.

Thanks for the reply, don't expect to use it much but it bugs me because the shuttering is pretty bad even on level ground.

tbh the selec speed func is better on its lower settings on the rubicon 4:1 transfer case. Us 2.70:1 guy gotta deal with the ABS shudder. Thats probably why there were some on the lot that did and didn't.

That makes sense. My 4:1 doesn’t shudder. I don’t like the abs noises, so it isn’t a feature I use often, but it works as designed. It sounds like the OP’s does as well. A video would be helpful so we can compare. I do like it to teach kids to drive offroad. They can’t reach the pedals and I control speed by shifting up or down.

This right here is the correct answer. I tried out the downhill controlled descent when mine was brand new . I have the Rubicon. That is totally normal. You still hear the ABS kicking in and out it will be even more pronounced if you give it e tra fuel and then let off the accelerator .. or while doing a super steep downhill descent.
I use mine on a section of trail that's 20% and you can clearly tell it's the ABS not the transmission.
Happy trails.
