I had the check engine light come on today, DEF system, see dealer. Truck is a 2021 with about 1650 miles. Now the last few times I've started it I haven't gotten the error about the DEf system but the light is still on.

On a positive note, made a good haul from the local farm supply store. Had 35, 8' wooden posts in the trailer, 200 lbs. of animal feed and a 4000' roll of high tensile fence wire. Think this haul squatted the rear just a bit.

Just heard back from the dealer on mine. They're telling me it's a faulty DEF pump. Part's on order and should arrive in a week or two. They reset the codes so worst case scenario that the mileage countdown comes back, I just drive a little less until the part comes in. Pretty confident this will do the trick, based on what I'm reading here, but time will tell. Just happy they got straight to it and didn't jerk me around like I'm seeing a lot you folks are getting. Guess it goes to show that dealership or not, it all comes down to the person with the wrench and their level of knowledge and professionalism.
Dealer swapped out my DEF pump today. Let's see how this goes...

When I took it in on Saturday the check engine light was still on but never saw the "service Def system" again. The dealer said they never got the error while checking the codes and I never got a message through U-connect though the check engine light remained on. They reset error codes, put about 150 miles on it and all's good so far. Got it back today, hopefully won't have to take it back.

Same thing with mine the first time I took it in but the CEL and message came back on in less than 10 miles and they were able to scan and diagnose problem.......took them a couple weeks to get parts and get it fixed but they did.

OK, to provide feedback on my cold weather DEF issues, here's what has happened to date. Codes thrown, p20c6-00 and p208b-00 which were addressed with part # 68438682AA pump which I am told includes the heater. Second service to address service DEF system resulted in change out of hose, part # 68335685AC which is supposed to have a check valve to keep residue Def from staying in the line to freeze, based on star case approval for line replacement per Jeep engineer. So' without any single digit cold weather to test out, I hope I get a full summer and fall without a trip back to the service department for any issues. Just FYI for any of you folks still in cold country that might be having issues. Good luck!
Was this covered under warranty??

My '21 JTWD joined this club a couple of weeks ago... The truck had about 3500 miles on it .
The first time I got the "Service Def System, See Dealer" message, it was about 10 degrees outside. I had used the remote start to let it warm up for about 10 minutes, drove the truck about 20 miles on the highway, made a couple of stops. After the second stop, about 30 minutes of sitting, I tried to use the remote start again and it wouldn't start. I started it up with the button on the dash, and the "Service Def System" message came up, and the check engine light.
I checked the codes with Car Scanner, and looked up the service bulletins for codes P20C6 and P208B.
I followed one the of the service bulletins, got the truck into a heated garage over night to thaw it out, cleared the codes the next morning and drove it for 30 minutes and got everything up to temp. It was dosing the DEF as normal, and didn't throw the codes again.
I thought maybe it was a cold weather fluke, and it was good to go. Overnight temps were between 9 and 15 degrees, and it started and ran fine for about 5 days. Then, another cold night at 10 degrees, and it threw the same two codes again, and this time gave me the 200 mile countdown till a no-start.
I called the dealer (185 miles away), and made an appointment. That night, driving home from work, it started dosing again, and cleared the countdown timer. The next morning, I drove it to the dealer 3 hours away, and it threw the codes again, check engine light on, and never did dose the DEF. The countdown timer came back about 45 miles into the trip. It did an active regen on the drive over, and was about ready to do it again by the time I got there.
Got a call from the dealer last night, and they said there was conflicting info from the diagnostic scan, and they were waiting to hear from Jeep to approve a fix. This morning, they said they are replacing the DEF pump and heater, and it should be ready to go this afternoon.
Hoping it will be a good fix, and won't fail halfway home.
Pete

Picked up my truck today, and drove it 185 miles home without issue. Cost to fix was just under $1000, covered under warranty.
Time will tell, once it gets cold again... Hoping the new DEF pump and heater will last.

Has replacing pump/tank/heater worked permanently for anyone here?

I joined this club yesterday while driving my family home through blizzard conditions and got the 200 miles warning 179 miles from home.

Not super impressed that my $60k battle wagon was threatening to leave us stranded in negative zero windchill of North Dakota (and before anyone starts talking about road/travel conditions it didn’t kick in until over 60 miles into trip). I also can’t just stay home every time it’s below 12 degrees outside as that’s legit the next 3 months here.

I’d Love to keep my Jeep, but that’s not going to happen if this going to be a repeatable issue…. How do they sell these in Canada of every single one is north of me even???

if fixable, great, but the mechanic I got on the phone today (drove my Gladiator straight to dealership last night in case it truly wouldn’t start again and parked it in service lot) was not confidence inspiring to say the least.

If not, I hear the new 2.7L gas turbo in the new Broncos have zip without DEF….

I've put about 400 miles on my Gladiator since the DEF pump and heater were replaced by the dealer. So far, everything seems to be working. It hasn't been as cold as when the DEF pump and heater failed, until this morning.

For what it's worth, the service bulletin for this issue tells the dealer to thaw out the vehicle, clear the codes, test drive to see if the codes come back, and if not give the vehicle back to the customer. Since I live 185 miles from the dealer, they didn't want to give it back to me, knowing it would do it again and I'd have to make the trip twice, or thrice. The dealer had to get approval from Chrysler to replace the pump/heater unit, and did so because it had the codes permanently stored as well as currently active and with the countdown till no-start. I had already done the service bulletin routine myself, and it was fine for a few days before it came back and quit working altogether.

Yesterday, I drove 150 miles through a blizzard and temps in the single digits/teens with no issue.

4 degrees below zero here this morning. I used the remote start to fire up the Gladiator, let it warm up for about ten minutes, and then drove it to work, about 20 miles away. By the time I ran a few errands and got to my office, the def tank temp had reached 14 degrees, and everything else was up to normal temps. It did not start to dose the DEF during this drive, but I didn't get any error messages either.

Does anyone know what the parameters are for the system to start dosing?

I had the same error message as we get - see dealer, DEF, yada, yada, I had parked the truck outside on Fri night when it was -30C for about 1.5 hrs. What I didn’t know is that it was in regen mode and only figured that out when I got home in the garage and got a whiff of the exhaust.

The next day I took it out for a hard run for about 80 km and the messages did not return. Went to dealer and got the CEL cleared. Most likely a bit of DEF froze on the sensor while parked outside.

I notice your coolant temp at 204F. Does it ever climb higher during regular driving ie. not towing?
I can’t get mine over 95C in normal driving.

Thanks for info!

As of this post they haven’t even looked at my Gladiator…and the “high for the day” was -4. It’s gotten colder every day and I’m getting a little more steamed, but that’sa different story.
What

What all are you using to get DEF info? All I get in dash is how full DEF tank is on my 2021.

Thanks again for info!

I have an bluetooth OBDII reader connected to the "Car Scanner" app on my phone. Also downloaded the gladiator dashboard "json" file for the app, put together by a forum member here to show the gauges I posted above. If you search the forum, you can find it.
