Hey everyone, I wanted to talk tent talk with y’all. I don’t want a rooftop tent, or racks on my bed. I saw ShiftPod has a sweet tent! Do you guys have one, and if so is it worth it? If not, what’s a great tent that is easy to set up and can hold a few people?

Don't have one but I have seen them and they look very nice but man they come with a hefty price tag. Think they are on the Shiftpod III now. I can't take that kayak camping so probably have to stay with my REI tent. But they sure look interesting. I would love to be able to set up quick and be able to stand in tent

Read about some of the issues that people have had with them. Some of it may be user error and/or expecting too much from the tent . I kicked the idea of getting one of them around pre-jeep and ended up decided against it. Given the gladiator, I am glad I did.

Dose anyone know of a better tent, or one similar as in how it unfolds. I hate the silly poles!

One of our kayaking group guys has some sort of tent they sold him on with no poles. Its kind of like the shiftpod walls. It has failed twice in 20 MPH winds.

If you're looking for a quick setup hub similar to the shift pod, then Gazelle is likely your best bet. https://gazelletents.com/
The only issue I have with either is the size of them when folded. Both the shift pod, and the gazelle are big when folded, do make sure you plan for that when packing. I prefer to keep all my stuff organized in Roam cases so they easily fit in my bed, and unfortunately that's impossible with hub tents, so I won't be adding them to my gear lists. I use a Stoic 2 man tent.

I too have a Gazelle, a T8, and LOVE it. it takes longer to lay out the ground tarp than it takes to set up the tent! Literally I can set it up including the rain fly in under 2 minutes. The tent survived a really bad thunderstorm with 30-40mph wind gusts, and rain so hard couldn't see the truck from campsite. Only water that got in was tracked in from our feet. Other than the size of it packed up, I have zero complaints!

Those Gazelles are hard to come by I was looking at the T3 version as a second tent for different types of trips but man like a lot of stuff no one has them

One review I read said it has a bunch of little holes and bugs get in? I'm in Florida so big proof and rain proof are really the 2 main requirements of a tent.

If you can’t count on water and bugs staying out, sleep on a hammock! ?

Be careful on youtube... a lot of these brands selling gimmicky gear have strong social media awareness and control. A lot of influencers will receive gear and give you the "oh yeah they sent this but I'm totally not biased" followed by a great review after trying it out one weekend.

IMO that price is insane but if you want to pay it it's up to you what's important. That design does ok in the Gazelle line but those are 1/4-1/3 the price. If I were to be getting a quick-up tent, those are where I'd be looking.

Hell you can buy hundreds, thousands or even more if reviews at the click of a button now after you pay. All created to say exactly what you want to say about a product. I have been running an REI Half Dome 2 Plus with footprint for some years which goes for about $280 so the Gazelle T3 is in same price range. But if it were to truly give you more space and function as well then that is a win/win situation. You will never keep out all the bugs especially mosquitos in the deep south. If you can keep out the spiders and other creepy crawlers and most of the rain then your good. Its condensation that will get you more than rain in most cases. Can't vouch for Gazelle, shiftpod, etc
