I recently bought a new Gladiator Overland and have enjoyed her about 7,500 miles now. Still bone stock and will likely stay pretty close to that. One admittedly minor aggravation is an occasional “dribble” in the back tires when we hit a shallow pot hole at moderate speed or more. I’m running 36 lbs in the factory 275/55R20 street tires. This is Jeep 5 spread out over 40 years so I don’t expect her to ride like a Caddy but I would like to eliminate the wheel hop thing. What do y’all say, stiffer or softer? Any specific brand recommendations?

I’m just hearing crickets on my question here. Regarding the factory shocks mentioned above, should I try shocks that are firmer, or some that are softer? Just want to tame the wheel hop on pavement. Anybody?

I am about to try some Bilstein 5100s. It may be days before I can get around to installing them though. Seem to have partly worn out the factory Sport shocks with some offroading.

You could try a set of rubicon take off fox shocks. They normally go for a decent price on marketplace. I ran a set of fox 2.0s for a short period and they rode really good in my opinion. Bilsteins 5100 are one that is reasonably priced.

Running unloaded perhaps drop a pound or two for kicks and see how it responds, the Overland should be about the best for on road ride, I think…..Jack

I have some of these being shipped right now and am really looking forward to them. I'm really looking forward to not feeling every bump in the road. The Skyjacker shocks were fine for a few hundred miles but have completely given up the ghost.

You are on 20s, with a truck bed, with the same shocks that come on a sub 40k sport.

air the tires down if you want comfort with no mods, otherwise get some more meat less metal to roll and get some higher end shocks

I had the Rubicon take-off shocks on my 2020 - took them off to trade the 2020 for my 2022.
They are still sitting in a box. I will not put them on my 2020. Way too bouncy in the rear. Weak shocks. The stock Overland shocks are at least as good.

LOVE the ride on a stock Overland. Smoooooth as silk even across tracks. In fact, stock, my Overland rivaled my wife's Grand Cherokee across tracks.

OP do you have a High Altitude? Your pic looks like a High Altitude. Not sure what shocks the HA has, I have one too. They are black, and yes bouncy... I'm also looking at the Bilstein 5100s, Fox, and Falcons.

Thanks folks. I appreciate your thoughts. I will say this is by far the best riding and most well mannered Jeep I’ve ever driven. All others did have larger tires so didn’t have this particular issue. This tire hop isn’t chronic, just trying to make it better.. I believe I will try the 5100s to see if they help. Would you think the 5100 is more firm that the stock Overland shock? And yes it is a HA model. I have run it at 29-30 psi some but not sure it helps. I would almost classify these stock tires as low profile. They are certainly the thinnest tires I’ve ever had on a Jeep, which may be the cause. I’ll keep you posted if I learn anything with the 5100s.
