In grammar school in the 1960s we had a lot of local scientists come by and give lectures on various topics. I remember one about the last ice age about 20,000yrs ago and that we were in a warming trend and that within our lifetimes we might see average temps rise a little, like maybe a degree or so. A number was mentioned for the ocean temp rising that would be catastrophic and I don't remember the exact number but the thing that stuck in my mind is "we may see global warming within our lifetime" and this was around 1967 and we were all 10yr old kids then.
Think about that, we are on the uptrend coming out of an ice age and 40 or even 100y years ago scientists knew the earth would be warming for the next many thousands of years and that the times we are in right now might see a little global warming. This has nothing to do with people or factories or smog or CO2, its just what the earth does.
So far nobody can tell us exactly how much if any influence humans might be having on this warming trend. It might be zero. It might be a little, who knows? Nobody knows. So why would we do anything that affects our lives to change it when we have no idea that we are even contributing to it??? We could possibly ditch all cars, stop all manufacturing, not use a drop of crude oil and so on and nothing will change except we revert back to cave man ways.
Please tell me why we should change anything right now. And don't get me started on taxes!
