I hoped to keep this short ................

2020 Overland, 30K miles.

Last Fall, replaced the Aux Battery when the repeat message "ACC switches unavailable, batteries charging.."

Replaced the primary battery this summer.

WEIRD!

Swapped summer tires and rims, back to the stockers last week.

Upon starting a new message ......

"Start Stop System unavailable."

"Service Stop Start System"

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ......................

Old Phart Phrustration

Yeah man, I understand your "Phustration"

I'm old enough to know and say, they don't make batteries like they used to. Have you pulled static and running voltage on the battery?

Not yet.

The other boggle, is that I installed a Start Stop Module that is installed inline the wiring harness.

It failed when I replaced the primary battery.

Tomorrow I will twist myself up like a Gordian Knot and remove it.

Then let the games begin.

I put the trickle charger on the disconnected leads, and it's flashing, so something is taking juice.

I'll check the system fuse as well.

Yeah if you're getting an error from the charger I would remove it. We don't want you to burn your Jeep and house down over night.

My local battery place gave me a 3 year in house warranty battery when I bought it.

Yes, it will charge both batteries, you just won't know which one needed help or how much.

That will work. The easiest way is to just disconnect the Aux Battery Negative cable from the IBS.

Separately charge each battery, let them sit for a while with no load, and then check the voltage. Each one, if healthy, will read near 12.8 volts.

You will also want to check the high current fuse array on the side of the fuse box, when you are done. These can get damaged when replacing batteries, if not very careful.

With the tickle charger connected to the disconnected main battery connectors, the flashing has stopped on the charger.

Sumpin' took a charge.

I'm assumin' the Aux battery.

I'm hoping the 1.5 year old aux battery din't defecate in the sleeping area already ......

A pain in the tookus to change.

Charged both batteries independently.

Both by trickle to 12.8 volts.

Removed the failed Start Stop module.

Checked fuse 42 visually and with a test light, good.

Started it charge voltage at battery 12.6 volts.

Start Stop light still on GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Tested all standard fuses, quite a few with no voltage to either side.

How does one test the "High Current Fuses"?

Thanks for the help folks.

Olde Phart now over his head.

The "Start Stop Unavailable" message didn't go away for several days after both of my batteries were replaced under warranty. I'm pretty sure the battery sensor and computers take a number of drive cycles to relearn the charge state and capacity of the batteries before they allow the start stop system to work again.

Don,

Like you I still have my old trickle charger with multiple settings. It's what I got when first driving (MANY moons ago).

I'm going to suggest to you that you purchase one of the new smart chargers. One that has different settings for different battery types. They also will allow you to attempt a "repair" on the battery. They give you exact info instead of a range. They can be had for very few beans.

They can be used as a maintainer as well as a charger without doing damage to a battery.
