Nope. Not on Friday.

I did have one unplanned breakdown when out with who was to become my first wife - driving out to the country in my 68 Javelin, hit a bump and dropped the right side pipe. I found some wire along the rode and she drove it home while I held the pipe up holding the wire with my arm out the window. We had a big laugh over it.
Ok. Good. but seriously man. You got me. You are saying you never broke down in a car. Vehicle. Or whatever. Ok. I think we need to define break down. I'm hunching that you've done a bunch of road fixes. Except you are the guy who has tools, skills, etc, so you didn't have a prob and got on your way. Right? That's A.

B is, you were to be on a roady at some point with some dudes and some other dude broke down, slowing your progress because you had to fix it? Right?

I mean, nobody never broke down. I just couldn't believe that...

Either that or you are the ultimate exception for the rule of everyone breaks down sometimes.

Still trying to think of a time............
I've never been stopped to the point I had to be towed or trailered, other than a major accident.
I've not done road-side fixes. I generally don't carry tools with me other than a screwdriver or two, maybe pliers.

Worst cases - the sidepipe dropping,
hauling my 70 Javelin to a show I had a trailer bearing blow out - was close to destination so kept driving. I got there. I Got to show grounds, unloaded, raised that end of the axle up and chained it to the frame, removed wheel and brake drum - pulled trailer home.
T5 transmission in my SX4 blew the rear thrust bearing (170,000 miles) and locked up when trying to back out of a parking spot. Waited for other cars to move and drove out, limping it home and rebuilt the transmission.
Comanche blew water pump, belt and hoses on way home going up I35. I pulled over and let it cool a bit, drove it another bit, stopped, drove it, stopped, made it the last 3 or 4 miles home. That was error of the shop that had done water pump under warranty.
Still thinking........
Oh, drove my 70 into town, pulled into gas station, shut it off and in 5 or 10 seconds heard a loud explosion and steam and coolant everywhere.
Blew off the upper rad hose. Put hose back on using a screwdriver I had, filled it with water from the gas stations hydrant next to the pumps. Apparently the upper clamp wasn't tight enough - OR, the cap didn't release pressure at 14 pounds. That would have been really bad if I had been on the road, but I believe it would not have blown while driving - I suspect heat soak after stopping did it.

Alrighty then. New learning for me. An experience jeeper who properly maintains his vehicles to the point of never really breaking down! Impressive.

Shadowspapa,

I am surprised you were never gotten by any of the janky Crown timing covers. I had one of those get me on a new rebuild. Ate the teeth slap off the distributor and these were AMC original matched cam and distributor gears. Yeah, yeah, should have checked mesh I know but had no idea at the time such a problem existed with the cover alignment and it really had no other tell tale signs of misalignment that one would otherwise pick up on. Crown got a bunch of people on that one... This guy included.
