As I was reading yet another mpg post here, I had a thought.

Who is getting 20 mpg + or what could we do to get better gas milage, real or totally outrageous.

If you have a 2 door JL with the 4 cylinder turbo, with the highway tires you can get about 24 mpg.
In my Wife's JL, 6cyl, she was getting 19-20 with Highway tires. She dropped to 18 with AT tires.

Here are some thoughts to help improve mpg.
Anyone every put a bug deflector on their hood and notice an improvement with mpgs?
What about one of those big roof scoops like the big rigs have?
Maybe some fender flares that are more aerodynamic.
Or what about a pointed grille.

Here is what AI came up with:

Jeep Gladiator Ok, so here's a stupid topic! 1777983194019-of

Some Features:

  • Active shutters that close at high speeds
  • Tapered rear bodywork for even less drag
  • Lowered suspension to reduce under-car airflow

  • Frontal Drag Reduction: Closing the classic vertical grille and smoothing the front fascia can reduce drag by nearly 10%, contributing to a 5% bump in highway MPG.
  • Rear Bed Aerodynamics: The sloped "fastback" bed cover prevents air from swirling in the open bed, which is one of the biggest sources of turbulence on a truck.
  • Higher Speed Gains: Aerodynamics account for roughly 50% of fuel use at highway speeds. You'll notice the most significant savings during long trips at 65+ MPH.

AI says that this design will get:

Estimated MPG Breakdown
  • Highway: 25–26 MPG (up from 22 MPG)
  • City: 17–18 MPG (up from 17 MPG)
  • Combined: 21–22 MPG (up from 19 MPG)
AND yes, I know I must be bored and have way too much time.

Interesting. Makes the decision behind the Cyber truck's shape a little more reasonable, still ugly but a little more understandable.

Something... something... software.
Looks like result of an unholy union between a Jeep and a Subaru Forrester.

The side mirrors terrify me for no apparent reason. I do like the solid hubs though, although I suspect they would be made of unobtanium.

I'll keep my Jeep a Jeep thanks. If you want better gas mileage buy a Maverick.

Here is what AI came up with for MPG on the Maverick. The 2025 Ford Maverick features exceptional fuel economy, with the 2.5L hybrid powertrain delivering an EPA-estimated 42 MPG city and 35 MPG highway (38 combined). The 2.0L EcoBoost engine offers around 23/30 MPG (City/Highway), while all-wheel-drive (AWD) hybrid models achieve roughly 40/34 MPG.

I know one trip I took in my Overland (ordered 5/19, delivered 7/19) I averaged around 25 MPG for the whole trip. I went from my home to Grayling, MI and back. Around 754 miles one way.

I set the cruise at 70 MPH once on the interstate. All MPGs were calculated fill to fill. The lowest was 22 MPG in upstate MI because the speed limit was 75 MPH and,, it was right before Memorial Day weekend so if you didn't to at least that, you were road pizza from everyone else.

I did get 27.2 MPG on one fill that trip. That was on the way back crossing Ohio and into Western PA. Guessing a tail wind as I was heading east. Most tanks were over 25 MPG.

Right after I got her, I took a trip from home to Boston, MA and brand new, she averaged 23.5 MPG, brand new.

I used to get 21 MPG bopping around (20 in Winter) with the factory Dueler HLs but now that I have ATs on her, I'm getting around 19 MPG bopping around...will pick up with summer blend gas.

My wife's Grand Wagoneer lowers for more aero efficiency. My diesel Ram had somewhat "streamlined" mirrors. They were virtually worthless when backing, especially with a trailer. I think only Ford puts usable mirrors on their trucks.

the front end looks closed up. Aerodynamic yes but uh…….. how does the radiator cool with no air flow? If Jeep went to a body style like this I’d be looking for older models.
C’mon….don’t you recognize an electric vehicle when you see one???? 😂
