Soft top vs hard top and why wouldn’t we all prefer to have just a soft top with metal doors?

Mine came with soft top only. I changed to a hard top and it was not difficult. The only operations that you might not anticipate are mounting the two front and two rear brackets for the freedom panels. The brackets are included with the hardtop kit. My JT also came with the wiring for the hardtop rear window defroster. The connector and a pigtail of harness are inside a cover just behind the left rear door.

Hard top. It's a daily and a truck first. And it's one less soft top I have to take care of, not that they're difficult, but my Plexus and 303 budget is already too much. If I want a soft-topped vehicle I take out the LJ or TJ. Moreso the LJ. Anyone want to buy a '99 TJ? 😆 Compared to the previous JLUR, this might be a hard top I'll actually remove because it is so much smaller and more manageable.

It's a very small roof be it hard or soft, and each only has one window facing backwards. I can't see it making much difference in road noise. And the factory soft tops are so much better than what the older Jeeps use. The Bestop on my LJ fits as well as an old tarp draped over a hay baler. The biggest issue with wind noise is the junction between the top and windshield frame and I think they've finally dialed that in on the newer vehicles.
