So the rails that go on the bed have a material/ rubber part that seals along the bottom? Looking at buying a used one and wondering if I need to get a new weather adhesive strip. But some install videos I watched show the rail has it built it in and that’s it’s not sticky.

Best bet is wait until you have them in hand and see what is there.
Weather stripping can be had at any big box hardware store for relatively nothing.
Plus you can choose your thickness instead of what they come with.

It's only sticky on the side that attaches to the aluminum rails on the Softopper. I take mine on and off all the time with no issues.

So I get a little thicker strip it just seems to seal better but its only sticky to the topper rail not the truck bed.would also recommend checking clamp bolts every so often if you leave it on full time. They hold up great even in the srltring winds of Wyoming

I take mine off and on as well. Only really use it for camping, long trips, or hauling taller stuff that I want to keep dry.

Ive had to replace the seal a number of times. The last time I actually grabbed camper shell foam seal from Lowes and its a little wider than the rail (I just put the excess in towards the bed or you could cut it) but it was the best solution I've found so far. Easy to get and held up very well.

But yes, stick it onto the Softopper rail not the bed. And YES, keep checking the clamps. Mine loosen for sure.

I've had a few softoppers over the years on different trucks. The first one I bought was used and that foam had degraded to the point it was like hard rubber. That top was already heavily used though. I replaced it with canopy seal from Home Depot. Ended up using the same stuff later on a different softopper, works great.

When theyre new that seal comes with white tape on the adhesive side, take that off and just press it on. Its not molded to the rail.

Dont let that seal stop you from buying, maybe try to get the price down another $20 to cover the replacement.

I have had plenty of Soft Toppers over the past decade. I have found them to be the most useful topper out there for my needs. All the fun, none of the storage issues when you take it off!

Brand new these things are $1200. As mentioned, there are plenty of options for replacing the rail seal. I second chr15m that I would not let this stop you from buying it!

Thanks for the replies! It seems only lightly used and he wants 500. That is coming with the trail rails fr mounting purposes with the proper clamps. My Jeep did come from the factory with them.

I’ll see how the rubber looks on the rails and go from there.

It does have a small tear about the size of a quarter but I’m just going to throw a small patch on it.

Any suggestions for the patch? It just go with softopper little clear patch looking option?

I'd put a slightly oversized patch on it. That part stretches so sealing it alone probably wouldn't hold. Softopper sells extra front and rear panels, you might be able to get extra vinyl to make a patch from them.

Anyone do anything special about the front corners? Gap seems a bit bigger on one side but neither are too bad.

For now I put a tear aid patch and some flex seal tape. Inside and out lol.
