My 2020 is at the dealership for the same issues described in prior posts. Last Friday, after 3 weeks, my Service Advisor told me it needs a new transmission and is on backorder. He advises me to call the Jeep customer care line to get authorization for a rental. Jeep customer "cares" is a joke. I had to follow up 5 times to finally talk with my case manager, who was less than helpful. I finally have a rental after almost 4 weeks. This ordeal is a significant pain in the rear. Once this is repaired, I'm done with Jeep.

I think I’m might be having the same transmission shifting issues. Eight speed automatic. It always has to do with fourth gear shifting into or out of. Almost feels like a little surge or something. Also, kind of feels like a misfire when it’s shifting But it’s the transmission, not the engine.

mine is a 2022 sport Max tow with 3000 miles.

Definitely get it checked out. In addition to the harsh shifting from 3rd to 4th. Mine wouldn't always engage in reverse. When it did, you could feel it. When it didn't the R would flash.

My SA told me right after I brought mine in, another Gladiator came in with the exact same symptoms. In that case they tried to replace the valve body with no change. From there they recognized that the transmission (back ordered) needed to be swapped.

Best wishes to you @56cbr600rr

I too am experiencing unusual transmission shifting.
I have approximately 27,000 miles on my 2020 Gladiator Overland.
It has always “clunked” into gear unless I let it idle down for several seconds after start, the “clunk” is loud and hard.
it’s always garage kept.
After start, the idle is high 1200 rpm plus for an extended time. In cooler temps it seems excessive. The local dealer told me this was not unusual. They also told me the “clunk” was normal, a “Jeep Thing”..I disagree.
I’ve also noticed during a start, foot on brake, press button, and when engines fired it feels like the Jeep moves. It’s very odd and random. I can’t say I always get in and monitor every start for an anomaly.

I feel a vibration in the frame at stop lights, like the mounts are old and worn.
As far as slipping I can’t quite put my finger on it but sometimes it doesn’t shift positively.

I have had transmission problems in other vehicles, I need to continue to gather data.
I hate going to the Jeep service center and getting the same old story….”it’s just a Jeep thing”… they said that about my first two gearboxes. the second gearbox was self destructing internally. Pathetic for the vehicles potential use. I do not take mine off road.

Jeep Cares - Please chime in if you have any transmission trouble shooting or symptom information that might allow me to better assess my situation. Something is amiss for sure.

My 2020 is at 53k miles and it just started. Very strange shifting at low speeds and when I pop it into reverse it’s worse! ?‍?

Crap I hope not! I’ve been a Toyota guy for years and never had issues. But I loved the Gladiator and traded my 4Runner for it. I’ve always loved Jeeps but always hesitated due to potential transmission issues. This would really suck if that’s the case.
I’ll drive it a few more days and see what happens.
I’ve been a Toyota guy for a good while too. I just traded my Tacoma for a new Gladiator Nighthawk and my friends ask why did you trade reliability for a problem. I have wanted a Gladiator for a good while so I hope it serves me well. Really enjoy it so far !

An update. I’m at 25,000 miles, and all is good. Just seems like every so often it shifts weird from 3rd to 4th or vice versa. Might be just the nature of the transmission. Fingers crossed.

Hi Hannah, I appreciate you being active on this forum. Can you tell everyone on this thread what would disqualify a transmission warranty in regards to common modifications that people make to their jeeps? For example “if the truck has a lift of X inches and tire size above X inches not installed by Mopar, then the warranty is void because of XYZ.” Do you have anything like that, that you can share?
Thank you!

I had these exact same symptoms on my 2021 Gladiator Rubicon for months they said when they hooked it up to their machine it didn’t go past a certain “threshold” that was required before replacing the transmission. Well it finally caused a check engine light to come on and things got started. A month later they told me Chrysler would not replace it because when they tore down the transmission it had some type of part in it so they rebuilt it and put in a new clutch. That lasted 2 weeks and my transmission full on broke on the freeway a few days ago. It’s with the shop and I’m waiting for updates. So yes if you are getting hard shifts between 3rd and 4th gear along with bucking when being put into reverse, that was the start for me. About 10 months later full on transmission failure.

My 2020 JTR Launch 8-speed automatic is off the 60 months warranty and at 38K ruined it’s transmission. Even though it is outside 2 standard deviations of the mean for quality, Chrysler Customer Care refused to pay for any of it or provide any help. Very expensive and I’m very disappointed. I love my JTR, though.

Call LKQ 📞 📲 go online to LKQonline
They have a call button in top right hand of your phone screen talk to them myself and @arosen1997 recently purchased used transmission that are both working perfectly. Mine had 6k miles in it the one He bought had 6 yes 6 miles on it .He said they had quit a few 2025 transmissions on there Md mine was a 2024 model. My local dealer installed it for me . Had to pay labor and buy a new transmission filter and transmission cooler . As they required a new one in order to gaurantee the install. LKQ also sells warranties on those transmissions if your looking for that added extra peace of mind.
