I used to watch this detailer on TikTok, and she had this product that she used to clean steering wheels to get them back to their factory satin feel/appearance. I traded the iPhone for a flip phone & try to avoid social media all together now. And was just wondering if anyone here uses something to keep their steering wheel clean? Or something they’d recommend to me? I bought my JT used & it came with a nice and shiny steering wheel from someone’s dirty hands. I am a little conflicted on the process because even my leather wallet has it’s own patina.. I’ve always been under the impression it isn’t from dirt, but from the friction in my pocket, but saying it out loud, maybe it’s just dirty too! Is a patina on leather, always dirt? TIA

I just threw a coat of the McGuires (sp?) gold leather care on the steering wheel, and it fell pretty much brand new

I try not to drive with dirty hands. I have not done anything with the steering wheel, or the interior surfaces, in the four years I've had it.

If you do the colourlock system, do the mild cleaner and do it as many times as you need. The strong cleaner will start to take the clearcoat off of the wheel unfortunately

I’m not sure what you mean by clear coat?

From what i've read, most automotive leathers are colored and then coated with a clear protective layer similar to a paint job. But everything is semi porous, so dirt and hand oils can penetrate and need to be removed. Some cleaners are gentle and can remove dirt and oil without hurting the leather coatings, and some are harsher and can damage the leather coating.

i had just gotten into steering wheel cleaning as my wheel was a bit too dirty and oily, and i was getting pretty good results with the colourlock mild cleaner but wanted to try their strong cleaner. With the strong, i started to see black wiping off in the rag - my clear had been worn away in spots. Not the end of the world - you can't really tell after i added some conditioner, but that's what happened so trying to save someone else a little grief. Was totally my fault - colourlock has very clear instructions on their products, and i just decided to go to town with the strong cleaner and wanted to share my mistake with you guys

Leatherique is the best I have found to clean, restore and maintain leather. It’s a process to use but the results are fantastic.

GP cleaner and microfiber…. For the tackiness. Assuming you’re meaning the wheel itself and not the center

Does Jeep use real leather or the synthetic blend?
I have heard it actually is a synthetic blend and that it is only on the seat bottom and back panels section. The side bolsters, door panels, shift knob/boot and dash is all vinyl simulated leather texture.

When you think about it, FCA/Jeep has really pulled a fast one calling it "Leather Seats" and trim and charging a premium for it when in the old days, vinyl was base cost material and downgrade from cloth seats.
