Is there a thread that talks about the vulnerability behind the glove box? Additionally, any recommendations on locking hood latches for a Mojave? I was looking at a couple and they seem not so secure.
I installed the Bolt hood lock on my Mojave and no issue.

Seems it would be good if they built these with ways to lock securely can bus access. I know it won't stop everyone but it would help I would think

I was in Toronto last week and saw two Range Rovers with boots installed in a fancy neighbourhood. Yes, they were parked in ppl's driveways not in public spaces. The Range Rovers in Ontario Canada have a crazy 5.9% theft rate!

Dude! What a PITA. Glad you got your truck back, it looks very nice.

As for the glove box issue; maybe someone can develop some sort of keyed removable locking plate to cover the connectors? Just a thought, no idea how much room is back there.

Wow, well congrats on them finding it. It sounds like it’s in good shape too. I can’t answer the salvage title question but I’d seriously have to pass if they wanted to give me a salvage title for simply it being stolen. I thought I’ve heard that you only get a salvage title if it’s been declared a total loss, ie, the total damage exceeds a certain %threshold of the vehicles value.
sounds like we need a steel box to wrap the star connectors behind the glove box to slow these damn thieves down! Ugh. I took my Mojave into the city last weekend and I was worried the whole time it was going to be gone when I came back. I gotta get some hood locks, flip the horns, activate the hood alarm soon…….just been waiting for warmer weather.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "Flip the horns"?

Here’s how I found my truck. Window smashed in, and the glove box sitting in the passenger floor. Haven’t inspected under the hood yet. Hopefully tomorrow they will move it from impound lot to body shop, and I’ll be able to do a walk through with the adjuster to determine the full extent of damages.

So sorry to hear about this ordeal, what a pita! People can suck sometimes!!

I apologize if I missed it, but out of curiosity, was your glove box locked? I thought I remember reading in another "stolen" thread that in their case, opening the glove box was attempted (it was clear as the handle was broke off), but the thieves were unsuccessful. That said, the truck was still stolen via the OBD port. Since reading that, I've been in the habit of keeping my glovebox locked (though I realize its only a cheap plastic lock, its no Brinks safe here lol), and have installed an OBD port lock. Last night I also hid a few modified/silenced apple airtags. Next up are some Rugged Ridge hood locks, a kill switch and the last piece for me is going to be the tazer so I can do the pin lock.

I agree with one of the prior comments, someone should develop some provision to "lock" the CAN BUS ports that are behind the glove box (and any others available throughout the truck).

As I was reading our post about getting things settled with he insurance company I was thinking about a truck I had that was stole. The day I received my check for the payoff my truck was found. I did not keep the truck as i had no idea what had been done, beside it being painted another color. Since I've been through his already, you own it until you sign it over to the insurance then they own it. There will be paperwork with the towing company. Well there was for me anyway.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "Flip the horns"?
Flip the actual horns as they are mounted stock the 12v wires going to them are accessible thru the grill . someone could cut them and you'd never hear the alarm going off.

My horns and wires have been moved behind the steel bumper and the hood horn alarm has been turned on in my Tazer
Put in most cases they never open the hood
They will copy your key fob or brake you window and access you OBD or can bus
To frustrate and slow down these ass holes multiple layers of protection need to be added

I added hood locks after reading these threads. I’m sorry for your ordeal, but it’s kind of a PSA to the rest of us and is appreciated. ?

It's way too easy to access the horns. i get it that they put horns there for sound projection for people in or not in vehicles to hear - but that can be done in other ways. The horns in my cars sit low and back a ways from any grill access and they project fine.

And this brings up - the hood alarm appears to not be enabled by default from the factory. Going in and enabling that could scare off at least your casual battery thief or whatever.
Nothing is going to stop the hard core - nothing at all. They WILL get it no matter what fancy device you have spent money on and are in the cult of believers that it stops thefts. All they have to do is show up with a vehicle capable of pulling something, or worse, a flatbed of some sort. They can break in, pull the emergency transmission handle under the panel ahead of the shifter and knock it out of park. They can dolly it away, or haul it away on a trailer or truck.
Casual thefts will be stopped by certain tactics, but if they REALLY want it and are pros, it's theirs.
As said - layered approaches are the best, and preventing access to begin with even better.
It's like we had to do in the gov't agency I worked with to get to be allowed access to SSA info - server and network security wasn't enough - preventing physical access was the final prevention. That meant a re-do of our server room to prevent anyone from getting in and physically accessing the servers.
Same for these - electronics and alarms are fine - but if they are parked where someone can get access physically and they are pro - it's gone.
Just because it's not been stolen doesn't mean your methods are working. It's proof of nothing.

I have read the glove box bits with a bit of a questioning look as I can't see how that cheap-ass glove box being locked will prevent anything. it's so easy to rip that thing apart if you have so much as a screw driver. It's plastic, it can be pried enough to get a hand on and rip it apart for access. Glove boxes in these are not secure. If I want in, I can and will get in. They lock only in the middle, leaving the left and right sides ripe for prying and ripping apart.

Interesting. Would like to know what are the weight percentages of how they factor those rates? Like how much does local vehicle theft and credit score ratings factor into them?

I live in Delaware and my rates are at most 30% of what they list for being a state average. I will admit I have to fire my insurance company every 2-3 years and shop elsewhere because they all take advantage of their low risk customers over time.

I enabled my hood alarm and added a hood latch. I also keep my key at home in a Faraday box. I also have a Faraday pouch for when I go to places I will be a while but will be close enough to the jeep for a relay attack.

Would like to move or protect the horns more and a way to make it hard to get at my obd and can bus connections.
