Getting ready to take a 6 hour drive and thinking I want to be sure I dont get massive road rash on my black hood. Last time I took this ride with my black car the whole hood was full of stone chips. I've looked at all the deflectors and the mopar bras and have decided I dont want a permanent hood deflector. Reviews show debris get stuck in the bras and scratch the paint. Any suggestions? Wondering if there is a film or something I can apply.

No personal experience, but my searches lead me to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072B9KRGS/

Per reviews, it works as advertised unless you get caught in a heavy rain or you have ceramic coating on your vehicle. I was looking for a way to keep branch scratches off the sides of the vehicle without going full vinyl wrap, but again haven't had a chance to actually try it yet.

When I did track days with my street car I would use the widest painters tape I could find. I taped up the bumper, some of the hood, and anywhere gravel might hit the car behind the tires.

Not my car in the pic but you get the idea.

Or spend the money and get your hood some PPF...Spend the money once and you are covered for a long time.

I've used Trakktape when I took a car to the track (would apply the night before and then drive to the track). Held up well and was easily removed with no residue or marks.

Great suggestions. Decided to go with the AVS - In my opinion it looks the best of the other options for a similar set-up. Interesting option for the roll on film - innovative! Appreciate the quick replies!

just ppf the hood and be done with it for 10 years. Even if it is $900 or something that is like $90 a year for cost or a little over $7 a month…close to 2 starbucks grande lattes. When you whittle down the cost it is not a lot for long term hood protection.

I was just looking at these the other day. These seem like a fantastic option for temporary protection: https://www.mekmagnet.com/
You could message them and see if they'll sell you a hood piece. They take custom orders as well. I see they offer a separate hood piece for the JK, but don't see it as part of the JT set.

I did the 3M clearmask on the leading edge of my hood - doesn't protect the windshield, but has protected the hood from a large number of stone chips. After a year or so when it starts showing it's age, I'll remove it with some gentle heat and apply another.

Does AVS make a film? Only thing I know of from them are the hood deflectors, which you said you didn't want.
Nope. I'm easily impressionable and changed my mind!

I have an AVS deflector and MEK Magnet as mentioned above, great choice.

You might want to limit how closely you follow behind gravel trucks.

Roger that. Before this I had a silver gladiator and it hid chips well, black I am super nervous about.
