Old Tazer died after 6 months. Finally received the new one with absolutely no instructions. (ZAUTO has the worst customer service in the history of customer service)!

They send a text that said “unmarry the old one.” Uh hello???? It was dead and they had me send it back before they would ship out the new one!!!

Does anyone know how I should proceed? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

When you marry the new one, that will be the new base for stored data. Any changes you make going forward will not be affected. When you unmarry your new tazer, it will revert to the state it was when married. This is from the JL site not my own experience. This makes sense to me. Does it matter if you take it in for an update at the dealership with a modified base? I don't think it will matter, as long as it is removed from the vehicle.

I'm curious about this since I have several vehicles with a Tazer. So I looked it up and according to google, it will require an "unlock key".

Here's what it said:

If your device's screen is completely unresponsive, you must detach it and use a computer.

1 - Physically unplug the Tazer from your vehicle's Security Gateway module.
2 - Connect the Tazer to your Windows PC or Mac using a standard Mini-B USB cable.
3 - Open the downloaded ZPU Software and click Update.
4 - Click the Unmarry tab on the right side of the screen and select Request to generate your unique Unmarry Number.
5 - Head to the Unmarry Key page and use this number to purchase an unlock key, which will return the vehicle's computer to stock programming.

Hopefully Zauto can send you the unlock key since they had you send the defective unit back.

Good luck, let us know how this turns out.
I think this is to reuse the tazer in a different vehicle. His tazer is dead, so connecting to a computer most likely will not work. Also I believe the tazer is no longer in his possession. He had to send it back to get a new one.

Live functions will revert back to stock on removal. Some features other than live functions will remain and should not prevent a new tazer from being installed.

I think you're right. Thanks for the correction.

Tazer JL has had an update where the dealership stuff passes through.

What exactly made you think (or what happened) to think it was ‘dead’??

Interesting. I have been having some odd issues with mine, specifically the Off Road App disappears. To correct it I turned off road pages off on the taser, rebooted, did the 2 door reset thing, turned it back on and repeated, then cleared the settings on the radio and eventually it came back. But it still occasionally disappears.

Occasionally the rear cam stays on after the turn signal goes off and the three honks sometimes happens even though ive disabled it.

Today for about 10 minutes on the highway the crash avoidance sensors stopped working (according to the dash) but then came back. I can't help but think it's related to the Tazer.

Similar problems to what I’ve experienced with my most recent Tazer JL and NoLimitz in my 2025 JTR. After failed updates and navigation not working without resetting the radio after each vehicle restart. I removed both and put them on the shelf. Hopefully someday I will find the patience to attempt another update. So far the updates are not helping my problems. That was a wasted $500 and time installing.
