How does everyone feel about the fact this only has a v6?

I'm having pretty mixed feelings about it.

I have a 2014 Durango about the same towing capacity with an earlier version of the same engine and 8 speed transmission. Plenty of get up and go . If you are worried remember you have 8 speeds. A lot can be done with gearing. Plus the v6 of today just as if not more powerful of the v8's 20 years ago.

As opposed to what? You wanting a 4 banger too? Look at the competition offerings and the 6 is by far a much larger take rate than either a gas or diesel 4 cylinder. My local Chevy dealer has 53 Colorado’s, 49 are V6, 2 diesel, and 2 I4 gassers. Same reason they aren’t offering 2 door or king cab configurations—maximum market penetration for least cost.

Only has a V6?

Well, it wasn't very long ago at all (less than 15 years ago) that I had a Ram 1500 with a 4.7L V8 that was rated 235 HP/295 lbs.ft. and it was mated to a 5-speed transmission with 3.92 axle gears.

By contrast, the JT Gladiator has 285 HP/260 lbs.ft. and is mated to an 8-speed transmission with 4.10 axle gears.

So, the fact that the current product has better performance than the V8 product from a decade ago means that I haven't even thought of the V6 as being inadequate.

I am renting a a 2019 Wrangler this week for work and I am please with engine performance. Not a ton of top end but plenty down low where you need it.

My 1991 Chevy 1500 came with V8 at 215 HP. Ouch.

I figure this would be my last ICE vehicle purchase before the market pivots completely to electric, as I intend to hang on to this vehicle for many years. I'd rather have a known entity engine in there like the Pentastar instead of something like the 2.0t in the Wrangler or brand-new EcoDiesel. Direct injection and other fuel-saving technologies are great but they also add complexity and failure points, and added maintenance (carbon cleanings anyone?)...

So yeah, the V6 isn't going to knock anyone's socks off but at least it's a proven mill and has served in the Jeep/Wrangler application for a LONG time with good success. Works for me.

I agree, the pivot to electric is one of the reasons it will be leasing for the first time. It gives more 4 years to relook at the market and see what electric brings. If needed I will buy out the lease.

Get a RIPP supercharger or a engine swap. Its not FCAs fault they cant put a larger engine into the engine compartment.

I remember when I was a younger fellow my dad had a Ford Bronco with the 302 good for around 200hp. I do not know exact power output but I know it was less than my Mustang LX 5.0 at 225 hp. We towed a 5-6k lb trailer all of the US in that truck with no trailer brakes or any other modifications and it did just fine. My point is that we have become spoiled with modern power output and, at least for me, I am happy with the Gladiator performance. Reliability is the most important factor for me so detune her a little and give me 250k miles and I'm good.

I took that same approach to my current daily driver, for different reasons. Happy that my lease is up next April - Gladiator inventory should be fine for bargaining early next spring. :)

The best selling midsized truck in the world has had an anemic v6 forever. Its resale value is unmatched.

Do you want a different truck? Or do you want the best off road truck? Selling the Gladiator is the first step, more Jeep trucks will come. The truck their selling is the best we can get for what its made for. Have some decency
Oh man that's a good one I almost spit my drink out.

Not FCAs fault ROFL.
