So my gladiator has a few issues, nothing major but I'm kind of tired of arguing with the dealers. I looked at what used ones are going for and there is a chance I can get a grand more than I paid(mine was used). It isn't my only car so I don't need it, thinking of selling to an online place and ordering new. I sold my last jeep online and it worked out good. Just curious if any one else did something similar recently? And did it work out alright? Also how's the ordering process going now, do they try and charge extra?

If your coming out ahead and not paying any stupid markups I would go for it

I think your mileage will vary in regards to paying markups or getting a “deal”. Many of us on this forum order from one of the high volume dealers at discounted prices. I ordered a new Mojave the week the 22s were available from Guptons near Nashville, TN (I am in KS) and playing the waiting game now.

I did just this, sold my 2020 due to recurrent TSB steering issue and a paint defect. Ordered Gecko and couldn’t be happier. I sold to Carmax and ordered from Chapman. It did take 11+ weeks from order to delivery but I have a second vehicle as well and it was nice not having the car payment.

I ordered Gecko back in August just to see what the market would be when it came in. Nothing wrong with my Nacho Willys that I got in April. Except it didn't have a few things I really wanted. Missed the order window for Nacho by days. Well it came in last week so I started the game. I got two good offers. One from Vroom and the other from carbuyerusa. Both were $2k+ more than I paid. Vroom was higher but I don't like their process of picking up then doing an appraisal off site before paying. Carbuyerusa sends and appraiser to you. They make the offer and you are paid before they pick it up. They ended up matching Vroom who were $1k higher. Gotta love this market. It obviously won't last.

In normal times what you are suggesting is incredibly dumb. People lie to themselves that replacing a 2 year old car isn't expensive. It usually is.

BUT . .

These are strange times. If you can get what you paid for it and then order one from Gupton at 6% off invoice, it seems a no-brainer as long as its worth your time.

And you have another vehicle. Sell the old one before you order. then you know exactly what its going to cost you. If you don't get the money you want then you don't do it. That's the cheapskate way. (my way).
