my local dealer said they cant even get oil to do oil changes for the Diesel engines right now and they are turning away everyone who needs one.
My local Advanced Auto has Pennzoil on stock.

There is no Diesel shortage, it's bullshit.

I traded my Gasser Gladiator after the motor grenaded; the new one started making the same sounds as the one it replaced. It's nice to run 37's and still get 22mpg rolling around town.
Yep.......2 weeks ago. It was the news cycle. This week news cycle, it's about the elections.

During the gas crisis of the 70's. I worked in a gas station in high school. We normally got 2 tankers a week. During the crisis, we still got 2 tankers a week, sometimes 3. We had one guy pumping gas. One collecting the money. And the manager sitting in a chair, holding a shotgun. Local police directing traffic that went for 3 blocks. Be at least one fist fight ever 2 hours or so. Open up at 7am, and close when we pumped XX amount of gallons. Limit was 10 gallons per car. I always had a full tank, so did my dad and mom.

If you need/want the extra power, then its worth considering. Otherwise I would stick with the 3.6. The diesels usually command a higher initial price, and you have to weigh the significant difference in fuel cost pretty heavily. I live in CT, and the price difference between gas and diesel is enormous. For example:
-My '20 gladiator 3.6 gets around 18mpg mixed. Over 20k miles, at $3.65/gal, the fuel cost is just over $4000.
-Assume a diesel JT gets 23mpg mixed (I am not sure if this is accurate). Over the same 20k miles, at $6/gal, you would pay approximately $5200 in fuel.
The 20k is an approximation of "average" mileage put on a vehicle in a year. If you are OK with the initial mark up to get into the diesel, the increased fuel cost, and paying more sales tax, then its worth looking into. When diesel was cheaper than gas, it made sense to consider a diesel over a gas vehicle. But with the initial cost being higher AND the fuel cost being higher, unless you really need it, I dont feel like its worth it.
We have 4 diesel Jeeps 3 21 Jt's and 1 jlur with a total off 75k miles and zero problems my Jeep dealer thought they would start getting fuel pumps next week so thats a plus as far as mileage my wife has the 21 Tuscadero Jlur she gets a tad over 30 mpg all stock I run 35's on my sport s Jt i usually get 26 ish hand calculated and me and my sons Jtr running 37's we get average 23 to 24 mpg. The power is night and day and you can run 37's with no gear swap only down side if pulling more then 4k watch the temp gauge because they will run warm.

I had that problem on the last change I did in the Ram. I had to go to multiple stores getting one quart at a time, and some didn't have that. Funny I did see on my last trip to Wallyworld a few days ago they had a couple of 5 quart jugs.

Gotcha! I totally understand what you are saying now. Thank you so much for the follow up point. I totally missed your point, to be honest with you at first but now, it all makes sense.

Yes, my lease has an option to buy, which is the way I have owned my previous Jeeps but I totally understand your point and concern. I really appreciate you looking out for me. To be honest with you, I really swore to myself and my wife that "I would keep this Jeep stock this time" lol but of course the modding bug has bitten me ?? I really love the way my JT looks stock but seeing your builds here makes me wanna throw money at it ???

I have reconsidered my opinion on jumping from my gas JTR to a diesel JTR due to the financial screw up and the horror stories regarding the unreliable diesel ticking engines. And yes, I know and fully understand the issues we hear about on this forum are potentially a small percentage of the really happy diesel campers wheeling out there. Nevertheless, I don't see myself taking this risk, specially knowing the luck I have ???

Thank you so much everyone once again for your honest opinions and valuable time!

Godspeed everyone!

Cheers!

Mario.
I had a 4 year Lease with the option to buy at the end and here in Minnesota they send you the Title showing there is a Lien on it, after a year I took the Title and Truck to the Dealer and traded it in with no issues or penalties.
