I have never had a tonneau cover before in my one truck I've owned. Would anyone know with a fold up cover that you can order during your build if they are mostly waterproof? I figured my bags would go back there during my commute since my back seats will be filled with car seats, and I didn't know if that was a bad assumption. Basically I don't want to put my bags back there if it's going to be wet.

I’ve had a few tonneau over the years and I would say that they are about 99% waterproof.

If you’re really concerned and the weather is bad just put it in a garbage bag and you should be fine. If there is any water intrusion it will settle in the tracks of the bed so you could also build a small platform with a couple of 2x4’s and PLYWOOD!

I have had many covers......however while looking at this one at EJS, it just lays on top of the rails and has a tight-ish seal that lays on top with tension. After you fold it flat and secure it at the tailgate end, there is nothing else to secure the sides. Not sure that over time it won't loosen up and not protect against water/rain......esp on the interstate/highway. It's a very high quality cover......just not sure how that seal is going to work.

Saying that it has nothing to secure it on the sides...does that mean someone could possibly stick their hand in the side looking for stuff? I realize that there are more secure covers out there then what is being offered. Just trying to understand what you are saying. I get that over time it might stretch or sag to let water in which I might have to take @smlobx suggestion and build a little platform. The drawers and such look nice, but might be out of my price range at the start.

Hopefully soon I can see one in person as a couple of local dealerships are expecting a couple to arrive mid to late week.

You might want to look into the Mopar hard trifold tonneau cover if Jeep or Mopar ever decides to let the world see what it looks like. For some odd reason it’s hidden from public view. But for certain I think would do a good job of keeping things fairly dry, locked up and secure.

Just a thought, but whether or not the sides are attached is a bit meaningless IMO, after all it is just a canvas cover that is easy penetrated by a sharp object. So just like a Jeep with a soft top on....don't keep anything really valuable in there

Very true...the rule is never keep anything valuable in the Wrangler. I did end up putting one of the 4 sided "trunks" in the back.

it flaps around quite a bit at like 30-40 mph, wonder what it'll look like at 75mph.

How many bags, and what size? Like tool bags, or shoulder bags, briefcase, backpack? They make large plastic storage tubs/boxes with snap on lids... put your bags in there, snap lid, waterproof... too big to pull out from under tonneau side... problem solved! ;{

Probably 3 book bags. One for work, and then 2 (1 for each kid) before I drop them off for school. So really just one book bag most of the time for work. Right now I either put them in the back of the Cherokee or in added trunk in the Wrangler to keep them safe or while in transport.

I will just have to go look at one and get a feel for it I guess.

There’s plenty of legroom, in the backseat, on the floor, in front of the car seats, for book bags! ;{
